We could use a little of this. Ray McCallum used to bring in football players. It was fun watching the bodies fly.

The General keeps calling for Whit to recruit a big man and all along we were thinking he meant tall..... This could generate a lot of mid-week FS1 interest in MAC basketball if our members would just field teams made up of red shirt offensive linemen. Would save money on basketball schollys as well. Save money, national interest.......play for a conference BELT in Cleveland......I taste a chicken dinner!!!
Yes. I would have much preferred for Quinton Nelson to have been a Whitford recruit, rather than the 6 pick for the Colts.

It would win close games where we subbed Josh and he wasn't playing well or where we had to play Josh/Nehls more minutes than we wanted to. An assumption HUGE assumption. Ish has one good game against a bad opponent and he's the second coming. Nothing against the kid, as he has some talent, but he has yet to show it on the court. One game is not a difference-maker. The comments by hmh on here are asinine and really simply laughable. All teams have injuries. Heck, we didn't even lose a starter! Most teams have to deal with losing 1 or even 2 starters at some point in the season. And I find the injuries commentary rather insulting to Josh Thompson. Do you really believe swapping out Ish for Thompson wins those games? I have some beach front property in Wyoming for you... Ragging Reevo by calling him "resident expert" is just classless. Reevo has forgotten more than hmh will ever know about basketball. Card Fan, you're right, whether those guys find the court or not is irrelevant. It's the same old crap - 20 turnovers to 7 assists, no blocking out on the defensive end, horrible FT shooting, lack of screening, and atrocious defense. Those things don't miraculously change with simple substitutions when they are your program's identity.

Just thinking back...... Historical statistics under Whitford indicate we are going to have injuries and suspensions which make us play at less than full strength for an entire conference season. I would suggest to the forum that this is the norm and we are ill-prepared to deal with it. It's called: 1) lame excuses, because every team deals with injuries, and 2) very poor roster management.

Our injury luck has been reasonable this year. How many starter games have been lost? Less than average I'd guess. Losing the bench players only hurts so much due to the multiple roster gambles, and that's entirely on the shoulders of the coach. He bet on having basically zero injuries and lost....and paid the price. But the apologists' narrative this year will be "Injuries, injuries, injuries". They will completely memory hole the roster issues. They are already headed down this path. In a year or so, they'll speak of this season as if we cobbled together a starting line-up of managers and cheerleaders. ^ THIS And as Card Fan said, let's go ahead and queue up the excuses for next year while we're at it. My goodness, this board and its pontificating fools are maddening.

I agree that both Cardfan and Reevo quite understand what they are talking about re basketball albeit we may not always see eye to eye. However, Ish played pretty well this season as the back up two guard, and Hazen is just finding himself but has shown from the beginning that he has a nose for rebounding...and the fact is would you prefer Nehls and Gunn over Ish and Hazen.....because by the way thats what its been....both Nehls and Gunn played ahead of Thompson.

Cardfan's passion is evident from the look on his face every time he touches a basketball.

I moved on to dreaming about football dominance.. One of my favorite Rocky and Bullwinkle add-on features was the old Fractured Fairy Tales. It appears you would have loved it.

Do you know how many back boards I’ve shattered?

It's OK Herman, free throw shooting isn't everything.

Ish played OK, not bad but not great. He still struggled defensively and his numbers were 6 points, 1.5 rebounds, 6 of 11 from the FT line and 12 assists vs. 14 turnovers. Hazen 7 pts. and 4.5 boards in very limited sampling. Both will help and as I've said we should certainly be better with them than without. But it is pure wild speculation what we would be had they not been hurt. Our troubles are far deeper with scheme and overall lack of adjustments, IMO. Thompson is a walk on who has over performed his expectations and has become a serviceable albeit inconsistent backup. At least he plays good D most of the time and gives good effort.

I think we will learn a lot tomorrow in regards to the condition of the returning players. We also get to see again if Whit can beat a coach who I think has a team with less talent. Home court should be an edge but hasn't been real key is the coach getting it done. To me a loss tomorrow shows why we can only get to a meaningful tournament with a different leader.
