No, everyone understands the position you advocated: the extension. We understand it all too well. I defended it after the fact as reasonable. Not an advocate for it before. There is a difference. Except that you were making excuses for Whitford before and after the extension as it became more and more obvious that he was no better than a mediocrity. And, by the way, the extension wasn't reasonable at all...it was a total disaster, exactly as I said at the time. You completely failed to perceive that and supported the extension. Of all the things we debate around here, that was probably the single most vital matter...and you got it completely wrong. Having gotten that so disastrously wrong, you might now want to defer to those of us who were more realistic and perceptive in our evaluation of Whitford, as we live through the years of consequences of that enormous, program-killing mistake. A little humility is in order, after your....humiliation.

Except that you were making excuses for Whitford before and after the extension as it became more and more obvious that he was no better than a mediocrity. I just don't think, now or then, that it is so crystal clear what added up to trouble. We did not pay to get the best coach in the MAC and we are surprised we did not? There were obvious problems in the first two years that go back to OJT after hiring a coach without HC experience. His fault? But he is a better coach now, did improve and I don't see how anyone denies it. Excuses? There are causes to some troubles that were beyond Whit's control. If that is an excuse it is a pretty good one. There are some good decisions that went wrong. I say we have to accept some of that. My reaction has generally not been that he was, or is now, a master coach. A lot it simply that many criticisms were too harsh. As it is, after all of it, he can win at this level and can have us among the top programs in the MAC. That doesn't seem enough to some, only domination is enough, but if we want better, we better consider paying better.

Quite honestly, you just need to post less and read more. Pay particular attention to those of us who were pointing out Whitford's shortcomings that you failed to recognize. Sure, you completely screwed the pooch in making excuses for Whitford and supporting his extension, but you have the opportunity to learn right here from several of us who have better judgement. It's a good opportunity for you.

I’ve seen no evidence Whitford can have us among the top programs in the MAC. He’s not even gotten us back to being the top program in the division, let along the entire league. Unless going 6-12 with what was supposed to be his best team is among the top programs.

I guess we are unfair, demanding fans if we want a ceiling after 6 seasons to be a bit higher than 2016-17. If the standard is to be at least equal to say Rob Murphy, then sure pat Whitford on the back for maybe meeting that stand.

I never said it would be easy to revive this program...BUT...it is not hard to review film of how a coach puts a team together. Does his team cut and move and pick and take sensible shots rather than stand around and watch teammates ''create'', whatever the hell that is. I am so sick of jackin' up threes, not following shots, not blocking out properly, etc. Look at what IU hired. They are stuck with another cheerleader for the next 3, 4, 5 years. LOOK at their history with a critical eye. Whit was an assistant in AZ, SO WHAT? Look where that has taken us. Buckley, same thing. Taylor, how can a coach get a team ready when he has all the energy of a sloth? Thompson is not worth mentioning. What we have been doing for the past twenty years has not been working. Let's really ''try'' this time, whenever that comes.
