He’s thinking, big splash! Big name! It worked for Memphis! I’ll look so good! Unless Stackhouse goes 5-13 in the SEC every year. They may take 5-13 after going 0-18 under Drew

In Hardaway's case at least he is a Memphis alum, I don't think Stackhouse has any past association with Vanderbilt. Apparently the new AD at Vandy is the former president of the NBA's G League where he got to know both Stackhouse and Nored. This seems like a really bad idea. You have an AD who is trying to win the press conference instead of games, shades of Jo Ann Gora/Roy Budd and Ronny Thompson.

It’ll all come down to how much effort a Stackhouse is willing to put into it. Will he work the long hours necessary to win at the highest level? Will he get out on the road and recruit or will he leave that to his assistants? Will he actually coach and teach players or just expect them to play like he did? Coaching guys who’ve already been thru college and are now professionals and having minimal restrictions is different from recruiting and coaching 18-22 year olds on a college campus and having all sorts of restrictions and regulations and classes. Oh, and boosters who have expectations of what happens with their money.

They would need to bring in a former head coach as an assistant. It can work but this one seems like a long shot.

I always wonder whether guys who have lived the NBA $$$ life are going to want to apply themselves to the recruiting grind. It's a lot of work. And if your coach isn't really into it....well you might finish 11th or something like that. Yep.
I guess if you are THAT big a name and have a great budget to hire recruiters that works well enough. But if you are NOT a household name, you better be ready to have a tough time unless you work and build and become a college coach where recruiting is dirty hard work.

I wonder how much recruiting mileage Stackhouse will get out of his name. He hasn't played since 2013 and hasn't averaged double figures since 2008. How many 16-year-olds know his name today?
Of course his whole NBA background is potentially a big advantage, but he's going to have to put some effort into selling it. Kids aren't simply going to line up to get on board with the Jerry Stackhouse brand based on name recognition. .

Smits visited Butler yesterday. However I don't think Butler has offered at this point.

Stackhouse to Vandy is apparently a done deal. Maybe it’ll work out great but on the surface it doesn’t seem to make sense.
