The 17-straight loss season was not Whit's first year; it was his second.
You know, all part of the master strategy to tear things down so far that mediocrity then looks like excellence. Paid off well for him.

Paid off well for him. Yeah you’re right. I’ll revise to say the talent he inherited wasn’t 5 wins bad his first year or 7 wins/17 straight losses his second year. Not a bunch of great talent laying around but the scorched earth path taken didn’t need to bring such terrible results did it?

The talent Whitford inherited wasn’t great, but it was not 17 losses in a row bad. I always thought also the talent we had was not a great fit for Whit's plans.
What plans were those ? Oh yeah, to play "an entertaining style of basketball that would engage Alumni and bring fans back to Worthen". Well I guess that was another complete failure on Whit's part.

After extensive analysis, I've concluded that either the 04/05 or 05/06 team is the least bad. These teams only inflicted shame and boredom on the fanbase for 28 total game whereas all subsequent teams put us through at least 30 games of pain and disgrace.

While we are on the topic of inflicted shame, my vote for “most inflicted” is the 2017 Ft.Wayne game in the Pay for Play fiasco.
We could have sent a frat team and gotten more intensity.

Who is worse at their job? The last four BSU basketball coaches, trying to run a winning program. Or this guy, trying to be a thug.

I'll take one season of Thompson over seven seasons of Whitford any day.

I'm assuming one of those was the year under Buckley that we beat Xavier and Butler (and then had a rash of injuries effectively end the season).

My analysis was strictly based on: less games = better.
