From watching the game, my take is that it wasn't so much hesitancy, but rather that we didn't get the shooters open on the perimeter via picks and/or motion. Part of that, I think, is that we got called for a lot of moving screens, which led to a lot of foul problems in the first half. Bradley was in the bonus really early, and the double bonus fairly early as well. Whether it be ticky tack officiating, or bad form in setting the screens, this led to a lot of subbing of the inside players (likely why Wells barely played in the first half, though it doesn't explain his lack of minutes in the 2nd half) and even led to Bik getting some minutes.
So... my take is that we didn't do enough to get the shooters open because of ineffective screens, which led to less good looks outside, and also led to less effectiveness inside.
The only positive for me was that I thought Smith played a pretty good game offensively, though he gotten eaten up by their big scorer on defense more than I'd like. It was nice to see him take and make some threes, and he (as well as Davis) provided some dribble penetration, but we need to get some kickouts to Sellers for 3s with that penetration, and I didn't see any of that. On the negative side, I know that Bradley isn't this world-beating defense, so it's troubling that we didn't get the open looks for shots in this manner (or via screens). That part of the game is what I fear doesn't bode well for the rest of the season. They, however, have several pre-conference games to try to work some of this out. I guess we'll see...

Yeah and not playing any exhibition games, in a year where officiating has changed the game, likely led to some of the early foul calls.

We really should have played full exhibition games.

"Bo, Davis and Smith, Moses, even add a little offense when they are wide open." Talk about adding qualifiers to a description of offensive prowess. Hey these four DI players can score a little if no one is guarding them. These guys are D1 players but on this team their job description is to get what the defense gives them. We have better scorers. They should be shooting going to the basket and open shots only, the reason they shoot then is no better shooter has as good a shot. Our good shooters did not get and hit good shots. That they kept us in the game is good thing. I'd rather see them not have to shoot.

Yes, our shooters are Sellers, Tyler, Weber, and Kipaway...these should be the guys shooting the rock!!
Weber could be the best shooter...we need to get the ball into the post and kick out when it's not there!!
Both the Kid and the Cards need to get this one at home...and head to Kentucky 1-1

I'm sure it really hurt not having two strong offensive options. Looks like that may be the case for another game. Who knows about Teague.

+1
Wells may not have played since both Bo and Moses were playing fairly well, and may have more offensive ability. We really needed scoring with our best offensive players bottled up.

It's not going to matter who we play if this offense does not improve. Our offensive set up is not good. If you are going to utilize your shooters by sticking them in the corners, you have to have good penetration and kick out. Our guards did little of that. We did not make any adjustments as Bradley was switching on every screen. I don't believe we ever slipped a screen or use screen to screener action. Our offensive game plan is so simplistic as it is like watching a AAU team play. Whitford has not shown me he has the ability to put his players in the best positions to succeed and that simply is poor coaching. This team has some ingredients but unless our staff makes adjustments, it is going to be another long winter in Muncie. Agreed.
