We aren’t beating iU. No way. 4 wins max. I seem to recall there was a previous coach that beat IU (twice).

Yep there was, he used Stan parrishs recruits and pulled the wool over every ones eyes. His shit show was exposed and his lack of recruiting put us in a hole we are still climbing out of. Not to mention after not getting the job he thought he deserved. He quit on the job here and bounced to be an assistant.

If you would read what I wrote, at this time according to many sites, just google the worst college football teams of all time and Indiana is ALWAYS LISTED in the bottom 20. Last time I checked they where listed #11 with an overall winning percentage .418. That being said, I never said we had better anything at this time than IU. This time last year most everyone on this site was not ''praying for a Victory'', they were praying we would not give up 60 points against ND. I told you last year get your cameras ready to take a picture of the ND scoreboard at the end of the game. I repeat that statement. If I didn't live 1500 miles away I would be in Lucas. I was there the last time we played and this year I expect the same result. We are all undefeated at this time. Hope springs eternal.

Let me ask you guys would you rather beat IU and go 1-11 or lose to IU and go 4-8 Beat IU. Under those parameters the season is a failure either way, but at least a win over IU would go into an important win column for future gloating purposes.

That I agree with.
Entirely appropriate to be optimistic every new season. I get that.
But the hard headed cold rationale part of me is with cardfan on this one. I hope for a good showing, that we play well and show enough to hope for some wins early, and that we hold it together and improve over the season. But, I think a win is out of reach.

You’re reminding me of someone behaving like a mediocre, underachieving civil servant without a life.

No not at all I am acting like a guy who remembers how bad things got at the end of a coaches tenure and the repercussions of that tenure that are still being felt today. You have always been a smart guy but also a firm Lembo supporter. Why do you think things turned as bad as they did. I'm just not talking record I'm also referring to the in house problems some of us knew existed.

We all owe Stan Parrish a thanks for bringing the two best QBs ever to play for Ball State. The man had an eye for college talent. I really thought he would be a success here but it was not to be.

Wasn’t there a Player named Jawan back then? I guess coach would throw a dozen balls out on the field , go back into his office and let them practice on their own. That’s it, they were so good they didn’t have be coached.

At the time, I felt like Lembo was a breath of fresh air. Stan Parrish as head coach was terrible. I felt like the team was bad and there was no energy or excitement. It did feel like Lembo left abruptly and the program was not in a great place when he left, so in hindsight I view Lembo’s tenure as a mixed bag.

Someone is a bit a bit defensive about Lembo all of a sudden after a long absence. Why is that? Why now?
We all thought Pete was a good coach and a good man. But we also saw it go off the rails and he never recovered. And he walked away.

It did feel like Lembo left abruptly and the program was not in a great place when he left, so in hindsight I view Lembo’s tenure as a mixed bag. That’s fair. However, consider the difficulty in maintaining a program with minimal fan support, donor support and poor attendance. I believe there was a 9 win season and on the following opening day there were probably less than 10k in the stands. Students are begged or bribed to attend. Limited outside financial support. Minimal recruiting budget. Assistant coaches budget limited to retain quality staff or to replace staff that has moved to greener pastures, etc. etc. Why shouldn’t he leave. one more thing about his players. Most of them continued to play for the new staff. Many bailed. The QBs regressed under the “QB guru”. IMO the lack of funding for the program, plus minimal fan and community support was his reason for leaving. Other schools like NIU and wMU have much better financial support. One more thing. He coached wins against USF and Virginia. Also beat Ohio and one other team(sorry can’t remember which) when they were ranked.
