Can the D come up with the stop when it's desperately needed? That'd be a no

Hard to beat a team that makes 3 48+ yard field goals. Those are the kind of kicks you don't expect MAC teams to make (or even attempt half the time)

Defense better I think but still not good enough to beat good teams. And we have to be willing to open up the offense.

Nobody thought we would win this game. Do we have areas to improve? Could we be a little more aggressive play calling? Absolutely. However, Overall I think we played pretty well. I am encouraged that we can be competitive this season. We showed ability to come back and keep this one close. Go Cards!

FAU played Ohio State tough, so we will have to play our best game next week, but that is one we can win. Go Cards! We play Fordham next week.

New season “not as bad a loss as we thought it would be” euphoria.
See 2018 ND thread

It was 28-0 after one quarter. Ohio State was playing their entire bench most of the game. FAU is lousy.

Hand it to their kicker. He set three personal bests. His longest until today was 44 yards. Today, 47,48,49 yds. IU knew it was in a ball game today. When we play a game like this we have to make the field goals but we must score 7 in the red zone. I am encouraged. We had our chances but we did not capitalize when we our chances. Quit telling me about how IU is strong, fast, blah, blah blah. They are still a bottom feeder and will continue to be one.

Remember he was a walk on from Mt Vernon. IU currently has 3 kickers on scholarship which to most schools would be to many.

Honestly, if iu was truly good they’d have completely run us off the field and they didn’t. We failed to capitalize on some opportunities to get Iu off the field and failed so that’s still an issue with the defense. But I think it’s better than it has been, but then can we really tell from one game? We felt really good after the ND game last year and we know how that turned out. Seems to have been a typical bsu/iu game today.
Game is over, we move on. What we need to see next week is a total domination of Fordham. Not some 24-13 meh fest. I watched most of the fau game. Sweep says fau is really bad. I totally disagree. They have bcs transfers at several positions including qb and rb. As the game went on vs Ohio state they really competed hard. Against starters. Fordham is an absolute must win because FAU is going to be really hard and we aren’t beating NC state. Hard to say how we’ll do on the MAC. Showing fairly well vs iU isn’t going to mean much.

I was stunned when the idiot Fred Glass stated publicly the other day he is working on a major contract extension for Tom Allen. What exactly has he done ?

Granted it's TSIB, but encouraging. As someone said prior, it's the annual hope spot that this crappy year might just be less crappy than anticipated. Of course, that hope spot is generally clotheslined back to reality with a horribly crappy loss to follow.

Guskey has a pretty fair evaluation of takeaways from the game in the StarPress. D didn’t get iu off the field in key spots, the offense didn’t capitalize when it had the ball within one score of iu a couple of times, need a pass rush, overall we hung in there but no way to tell what that means yet.
