I think the team will do a lot better this year, although I’m not sure everyone will see it show up in the win column. Still think the offense has to become more north-south oriented, we have some quick guys, but you need fast guys to catch the corner & turn. And for heavens sake, can we just try one game where the minimum depth of routes is at least 5-10 yards north of the line of scrimmage. Seemed like several series our goal was to maintain the original line of scrimmage. I don’t feel IU was overly dominate of our Oline, actually really happy with their play, but please design some plays where the routes break down field, We’re the underdog in almost all of this season, need to approach with the attitude of a cornered badger, just relentless attack. I’d rather die by the sword than wither on the vine. I’m still thinking 6-7 wins, especially if we can stay healthy & some depth shows up. Go Cards!!!!

I mean, Penix threw for 300+ yards in his first start and would have been more if his WRs weren’t dropping everything. He’s still not a finished product but he played about as expected today. I don't disagree. I'm just saying his incompletions were more a result of his inaccuracy than they were the BSU defense. We never put much pressure on him and the IU receivers were often open. Helped keep us in the game. Looks like a good player who'll have a nice career. Likely even better days ahead for him.

My takeaways: 1. Penix reminded me a lot of the ND QB last year in that he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and, even when he did their receivers helped with drops. That's why I'm still not sold on the D. The better QBs in the MAC will be more accurate. That said, at least they didn't run wild against us despite their obvious size advantage on the line. 2. I was never a huge fan of Hagee, but I guess we saw today that we really didn't, and still don't, have anyone better. 3. We gotta be better on first down with the offense. Most of the game it seemed like we were in second-and-8 or second-and-7, very rarely second and short. We gotta get to second and short more often. 4. I can't believe that Tyler isn't one of our 3 best receivers. He should have had 10 targets today. We had some decent results from Davis, but Miller was basically a non-factor despite his 5 catches, and Hall, for as much as we feed him the ball, really didn't produce much despite his one highlight reel hurdle. 5. I know maybe Dunner hasn't adjusted well to WR, but holy crap ... this coaching staff has had a couple of years to figure out how to use this guy and the best they've come up with so far is having him fair catch kickoffs. I don't care whether it's WR or RB or some hybrid make-it-up position, get the kid on the field. Complaints aside, I'm mildly encouraged. Just think we could be better and hope this won't be the best we play this year. I mean, Penix threw for 300+ yards in his first start and would have been more if his WRs weren’t dropping everything. He’s still not a finished product but he played about as expected today. Penix missed some passes and had the 2 int’s, but he was OK. You can see he has the talent. He is a much better passer than Wimbush in my opinion.

Enjoy the atmosphere in Indy. Like to see us open there every year with a Power5 team. Disappointed we didn’t win, but enjoyed the game. Plitt played a good game. Huntley looked good. Yo looked good. Riley made a couple of beautiful plays. Defense improved. Still see us winning six.

The offense as designed/called will drive us insane yet again this year. We’ve got some kids who can make some plays now, let em! At this point we have nothing to lose so why not cut it loose? Why stay so horizontal And cautious? And why not target Tyler way more than we do?

Meanwhile Miami’s freshman QB Gabbert toasted Iowa’s d on the first drive. Keep an eye on that kid. Miami might be surprising.

Miller will canned at the end of the 21-22 season. No he won’t. Lol. The guy was winning 24-25 games a year a Dayton with very little talent. Oh please he never finished better than fourth in the A-10 until the best teams all jumped ship. His successes at Dayton were blown way of proportion by the media. Archie Miller is far from a sure thing.

Hardly a sure thing. Either way.

I'm cautiously optimistic about our chances in the MAC.
We look to be much improved.

Well, Sweep and I were on the same page against the spread and I had us straight up as well although I was not truly thinking we’d win. In fact my projection was a 28-20 loss. Actually pretty close

Two large universities playing in an NFL stadium in a metro area of well over a million people and only an hour away from each campus! Says a lot about both Universities fan bases and apathy toward two long suffering programs!

Actually pretty close I agree and there was no sign of “intimidation” as some suggested. Our guys did a lot of things well and albeit we fell short today I am not surprised by anything and actually encouraged by this performance in many respects.

The one thing that sticks in my gut and has for a while now is why Yo Heinz is not out there alot more. Like I have said before Miller is an awesome third down receiver and Red zone target. He had one big game last year where he was something different. I do not know if its a blocking issue or playbook awareness but for whatever reason Yo heinz and Millers/Davis roles are reversed.
