Is this a we will win only because its coming from a Ball State Fan.. Or is these a we will win for a football related reason. If you really think we can win because we are a better team Id love to hear why?

I think we win for a few reasons. We have a cocky QB who will take chances. We have an improved defense (maybe not a lot, but better). We have better athletes and a good attitude. NOW, just eliminate the huge mistakes and we win.

I'm a little fuzzy on eliminating the mistakes. Maybe with an extra week we could eliminate some.
But we have a knack for finding new mistakes. That's a problem. Still, NIU isn't having their usual strong showing. We have a chance, a one TD underdog.

This game screams to me “missed FG to win as the clock expires”. Especially after Rimmler was perfect last week. That would be BSUish. I really hope Vandy roughs them up some for us. I hear NIU’s best LB is out for the year now. That news certainly helps us out.

My only add is that I think this teams supports the leadership of Plitt much more than that of Riley, add his cowboy attitude and a slightly improved defense and you have the win.

NOW, just eliminate the huge mistakes and we win. It's not like we are losing to teams who are playing mistake free football. I would think IU, FAU and NC State all did a lot of butt chewing the following week. If we can't beat average teams without eliminating miscues then we aren't very good.

Niu will methodically beat us down and frustrate us and we’ll begin making the usual mistakes and that will be that.

Of course we are not very good by an FBS measure, we are in a weak FBS conference and not in the top half of that weak conference.
We are right in the middle of all the college teams rated by Jeff Sagarin.
Losing to FAU at home as we did was the big disappointment. As someone says above, these teams did not play great football to beat us. Given that they did not, and if had played a really great game, we might also have narrowly won one against one of those big schools.
Being "very good" by FBS standards isn't in the cards for this program on this budget. Baby steps to put us in the middle of the MAC or a little above doesn't look out of reach. We have to compare to the MAC.
After all our greatest teams were not "very good" by the bulk of FBS conference standings, well, except maybe by IU standards.

I voted Hell, Yes. But only because I'm so tired of losing. Ever the optimist, I've been waiting for the program to turn around for umpteen years. Seems like we're always on the brink. But NIU @ NIU? Rough road.

The streak will continue. We’ll throw a couple of interceptions and continue to struggle running the ball and we’ll make their QB into an All American. The next coach to beat NIU hasn’t been born yet. If the game is close coach will make a helluva brain fart play call (like a pass by a WR off a reverse in the red zone) or a gutless decision that prevents us from winning. (Like a punt on 4th and one in NIU territory with under 3 minutes left. ) Yes a typical BSU game! Here’s how I imagine the NIU coach leaving DeKalb for the BSU game. The team bus is just south of Chicago getting ready to cross over into Indiana, the coach “Oh Crap we forgot to bring the rivalry trophy!!” Response from a senior captain setting behind the coach “This is trophy game???”🙄

Nah, we'll probably have them on the ropes late, facing 3rd and 20-something, when one of our defensive ends decides to make a rare appearance and take down their QB, only to throw him forward and allow him to hit a wide open receiver for a first down.
Yes, Newsome's failure to properly sack Jordan Lynch by trying to throw him down instead of just tackling him will forever be etched into my memory.

Not like they've needed to bring it with them lately.
