The NBA has a huge problem on its hands. In case you've been living under a rock, the Rockets GM, Daryl Morey, tweeted support for the Hong King protesters, on the eve of the NBA doing a bunch of exhibition games in east Asia, including China. This did not sit well with the Chinese government. China has a fairly large NBA following, and for the Rockets specifically, due to Yao Ming playing there for years. The NBA, naturally, wants to cash in on the large China market. So what does Adam Silver, the NBA commissioner do? Apologize to the Chinese for the words of his employee. Oh, but he won't apologize for Morey's right to free expression, just apparently for exercising it. So in the backlash, coaches Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich, who take every opportunity to pontificate about "social injustice" and "human rights violations" in the US, are dodging questions about China and Hong Kong. The NBA is actively preventing questions being asked about it at press conferences. Players are sitting silent, or apologizing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the "National" part of "National Basketball Association" referred to the US, not China. Maybe they should take the league, move it to China, and rename it "The People's Glorious Revolutionary Basketball Association". It goes deeper. In an interview, Jason Whitlock makes the case that it's the shoe companies pulling the strings. Because the shoe companies depend on the Chinese, not only for consumers but manufacturing, they are loathe to do anything that might piss them off, even to the point of alienating the American market. Pretty eye-opening words: www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/10/08/jason_whitlock_us_the_bad_guys_in_the_minds_of_woke_nba_players__coaches_they_are_promoting_a_marxist_agenda.htmlIt makes me wonder if without Chinese money, the NBA may not make enough to sustain itself and its inflated salaries. But what has happened is that we've gotten a real close look at the hypocrisy of the NBA and its management. It's a league of cowards.

We’re treading on a political thread here but, just maybe, the shoe companies might just have a little TOO much influence in U.S. athletics.
Have we gotten to the point where ticket sales and television revenue can’t sustain the cost structure of the product being put out by professional leagues?

This illustrates a common phenomenon. Many people who protest against "social injustice" and "oppression" the most often and the most loudly actually don't care a lick about either social injustice or oppression. But they have an very intense desire and focus to hurt their political enemies, and allegations of "social injustice" and "oppression" are convenient and in-style weapons these days.

Y’all have jumped the gun. Our man Lebron has finally cleared up the issue for everyone. Yeah, I just heard what Lebron said, about how Morey wasn't "educated" about the issue. Here's an actual image of the NBA educating Morey:

Y’all have jumped the gun. Our man Lebron has finally cleared up the issue for everyone. Thinks he’s the smartest one in the room and doesn’t realize he’s the hypocritical idiot. His yes men sure won’t tell him.

Herman, those were my exact thoughts as I heard about it this morning. Lebron was born with once-in-a-generation athletic genetic gifts and has had his butt lavishly kissed his entire life. Also his social and political views are perfectly in line with the woke/media/establishment views today, which contributes to the butt kissing. One result of all this is that he thinks his IQ is about 30 points higher than it actually is.

Of course disagreeing with Tucker Carlson doesn't exactly prove the case Lebron is a Marxist.
Not sure where Whitlock is on this other than pointing out the role of money in sports, which is certainly true.
I was thinking Lebron is a pretty accomplished capitalist, exploiting the masses through the conspiracy between established players and the NBA. Together with them making a fortune taking advantage of the monopoly profits generated by the NBA.

It must be exhausting, being so woke all the time.

Back in January 2018, Lebron tweeted this:
"Injustice Anywhere Is A Threat To Justice Everywhere- Our Lives Begin To End The Day We Become Silent About Things That Matter- #ThankYouMLK50."
He should have added, "Unless it affects my bottom line" at the end.
I've not been a big NBA fan for a while, but this closes the door on them for me. Cowardice and willful ignorance are not traits I like to see in people, let alone pay to see.

It must be exhausting, being so woke all the time. How woke Lebron is, or isn't, can't change the way the NBA is run. He seems quite willing to link his brand to that of the owners and if you don't like the Chinese shoe money, that is the problem, not his politics.

His politics makes his silence on HK the problem. That's my point. It's easy for Lebron to knee-jerkedly bash Trump, and Republicans in general. But he doesn't have an opinion on HK?
Literally the ENTIRE Western Hemisphere is on board with HK, but Lebron is suddenly "Whoa, let's don't jump to conclusions! China is awesome! I don't have enough info."
Yet, Morey is the uneducated one in his mind.

LeBron will be a social warrior, up to the point when it damages his business arrangement with Nike.

I am of the opinion that BSU and other MAC programs partnering with Nike should move to another American company like UnderArmour.
Not that would be a differentiator, because UnderArmour may seek the Chinese market and sell out for it in a couple of years.
I say, go with Champion, Starter, Majestic, or Riddell to avoid such BS.
