Ball State is the equivalent of a 16 seed in the tournament

Just about. Cards were a 4 seed in the MAC and #83 rank overall, so this is probably accurate.
PLAYING A #5 SEED WOULD MAKE US A 15 SEED.
Ladies play Friday at 8 pm

Not unexpected, but we’re getting butt-kicked in set 1

I do not volleyball but Nebraska is a different breed of animal.. Its kind of funny hearing yorktown and Munciana mentioned when the announcers are talking about Nebraska players though

Good season for our ladies. Great experience for a team with so many underclasswomen

Rough match as expected but the VB team should hold their heads high. Great season. It's nice to see a BSU team this decade actually win a MAC championship.

In retrospect, I just have to say what a colossal failure by the athletics administration and BOT in their ongoing efforts to lower expectations.
I mean it's clear they tried. They took a program that was trending down under the previous coach and, instead of going out and doing a big search and paying top dollar for a new head coach, they went the cheap and easy way and promoted from within. Not only that but they promoted someone who'd never been a head coach to make sure the learning curve would be especially steep.
But wouldn't you know it, they couldn't even screw up right. They mistakenly hired someone who knew what the heck she was doing. She not only won a MAC title in 4 years, she did it with a team loaded with promising underclassmen. And the upperclassmen on the team actually seem to have improved during their playing career; some even actually played their best ball as seniors. WTF
It'll be interesting to see how the powers that be manage expectations from here on out. I mean, they can't have people out there believing that similar results are possible in football or men's basketball. What would the sporting world come to?

Over the past decade, Ball State may have the best volleyball record in the MAC finishing first or second in the MAC West nearly every year! Long time MAC volleyball giants NIU and WMU have fallen to the bottom of the MAC West while BSU is the only school in the entire MAC to qualify for every MAC tournament! Ohio is another example of a team that ruled the MAC East and has now fallen to a very average middle of the pack team! Ball State had suffered thru 5 straight losing seasons before Steve Shondell took over the reigns and completely turned the program around and the Cardinals have been winning an average of 20 matches a season ever since. The team finished 2nd in the MAC West this season and won 20 matches again and broke thru the MAC Tournament jinx in what seems like every BSU sport has experienced! Women’s volleyball has stayed the course the past 10 years and will continue to do just that under Kelli Miller Phillips who played for Dave Shondell at Purdue and coached under AVCA Hall of Fame coach Steve Shondell at BSU for six years. The Cardinals hung 2 banners in Worthen Arena during that short time period. Next fall, Kelli will be coaching her recruits for the first time and next year’s sophomore class is one of the best in BSU history! Women’s volleyball is the least of BSU’s worries and has enjoyed winning an average of 20 wins a year the past 10 years! No team in the MAC can match what BSU has done record wise the past decade in women’s volleyball. In fact, during the six years Kelli served as an assistant coach at BSU, the Cardinals had a winning record against every single team in the MAC! So it is true that BSU was trending down during the Dave Boos era but that was 11 to 15 years ago when Boos resigned to become the assistant coach at Florida under the legendary Mary Wise and has been very successful there. No one should be concerned about the future of BSU women’s volleyball as they will continue to win 20 or more matches 2 of every 3 years just like they have done since Boos departed for Florida.

In regard to Ball State paying a coach top dollar to coach in a one bid NCAA tournament league, it’s not going to happen! Those coaches are all going to Power 5 conferences like the Big 10 where 8 out of 14 schools are receiving at large bids to the NCAA tournament in contrast to the MAC, where 1 out of 12 MAC schools are going and then being thrown into the fire playing at schools like Nebraska in front of 8000 Husker fans! In addition, these MAC tournament championships just don’t grow on trees! The MAC tournament is played on a weekend and one off match and you’re gone. The MAC league champion hardly ever wins the tournament and often times a 5 thru 8 seed wins it! The same thing happens in women’s basketball. Just look at BSU and Brady Sallee’s team. After an excellent MAC regular season and high finish, they get knocked out of the tournament 1st game every year in Cleveland by a lower seeded team like Eastern Michigan. Can anyone even remember the last time BSU has won a women’s basketball tournament 1st round game? What big time coach is going to want to coach in a 1 bid league like the MAC?
