Could be because in the article Elson confirmed he was fired and Neu chose to go the no comment route. That's just a guess we will likely never know.
Mike probably can’t comment yet because it’s not official or whatever.
And Elson could maybe be calling mike a coward for caving to a demand he fire Elson? Either way, it’s a bad look for a coach to tweet something like that.
Love to se this happen. When Hoke took over the defense coaching, our defense turned around and we became a competitor for the MAC title.
Brady was a great motivator at BSU. No doubt he created a good locker room and had players ready to play. Quite possibly he'd have made the slight difference needed this year for wins in a couple of close games.
BUT. The defense was not actually all that outstanding and he has not had really good defenses at any stop. He's a football player, a coach players love, but I do not see him coming up with defensive scheme or game preparation that actually make the difference. His best spot in college coaching is probably as a HC at a school where recruiting high energy underachievers and motivating them makes the difference (BSU can thank him for that) and one with a budget where he can find very good coordinators.
Here, he managed to assemble a good staff with the critical hire of an offensive coordinator. I have never thought he was not destined to be a coach at the highest level, not the management skill or political skill that requires.
Agee with all that. Brady was on his way to being fired till he hired Stan. Stan saved his ass both in installing a good offense and in recruiting. Especially in getting Nate Davis. And Brady wouldn’t come back as just a coordinator anyway.
Hoke is not coming back to Muncie, end of story. Without Stan Parrish both Hoke and Lembo would have gone nowhere. Parrish brought in both Davis and Wenning who are arguably the two best QBs in the history of Ball State football. That statement is not intended to ignore the contribution many others after all football is team sport. But the the position of quarterback is central to the success of a championship club similar to pitching in baseball.
Normally when you have co-defensive coordinators and you fire one, you might think you'd fire the other. However, that doesn't seem to have happened at this point.
I kinda look at Stockton as an Elson protege and, as such, I view him with a certain amount of "guilt by association." However, any chance Neu hands him the defense?
As I say, I know nothing about Stockton. There's not a lot of meat on his resume ... unless you're talking corporate finance ... so in addition to that and whatever role he played in this past season's defense I'm pretty skeptical about elevating him.
But if you're not thinking about that why wouldn't you have just let both go at the same time?
