Card fan.....have I not taught you guys anything...you still aren't a believer? Ok, we will win a minimum of 7 in the MAC....likely a lot more !! Any bets gentlemen?! U all can double up to catch up. I say 7 or 8 MAC wins. If we win 5 or less with as many upperclassmen transfers as we have who won't be here 3-4 yr I am more or less done defending Whitford. I'm certainly not anywhere at that point tho.

Nice win again without House down the stretch (actually the whole game). Guys, expectations can kill. No one expected this team to be a MAC contender, just hoping for Kid's 15 plus wins.
Now guys are critical that we can't win a lot of MAC games based on our schedule. Really too bad Utah pulled a fast one on us. That would have been a nice test.
Lots of work to do but I like the effort and so far decent execution. There were some bone head passes last night that they will work through I'm sure. Bumps in the road ahead but heading in the right direction. Not sure what to expect, but very pleased so far.

I'm pleased too. Just think we shouldn't suddenly start thinking this team is good enough to go .500 in the MAC or something. LONG way to go before that can happen. We CAN pull that off, but many things have to improve by January-- House can't foul out of every game; we can't make brain dead turnovers, especially against any kind of pressure; we have to run a better half court offense; Sellers has to rejoin the team (yeah, he's still on it, but you know what I'm saying); Tyler has to find it; Davis has to find it; etc.
Moses = VERY pleasant surprise. Love that kid. Weber can and will do much more. Calhoun, just keep doing what he does.

You are right on the improvements needed to be a top level competitor in the MAC. I guess the really good news is there is so much potential if they can somehow improve on those deficiencies. Basically the Sellers and House thing offer a huge upside if they can somehow fix that.
I liked the aggression shown on the passes but not needed. Whit was probably a bit nervous on the ones in 2nd half. They needed to run off time late and didn't. Anyway, the team is showing signs of being the aggressor. Double-edge sword.

I'm saying 4 Mac wins. Maybe 5. We can't seem to play on all cylinders. Sellers is disappearing . Will he stick around? We have a ton of work to do but it is early. C'mon. 4 wins? We will play a lot of close games, I'll agree, but that is really a worse case scenario. We couldn't close out a won game, bricked free throws, didn't shoot well, played the worse game since Bradley in a game very easy to lose after a big win. But we won anyway. And, for you that is a sign of team collapse and the coming of the apocalypse? To predict that we do that poorly means you have been watching too much BSU football. We will be favored at home for probably 5 conference games, about even money 2-4 more games including at least one on the road. We'll be underdogs but within one 3 point basket in as many as 4 other games. In the 5 or 6 games where we are 5-8 point underdogs on the road, these are not lost causes. Last year where we were a lot worse team we even won one of those. Once again the Kid is giving us all a chance to be more entertained by the coming drama. Help make our season more fun, and put your money where your mouth is on this! You get to watch the kid suffer and worry even as we close in on 7 wins in conference and you have been proven wrong! You should take his bet if you are even half way serious about that prediction. Kid's 15 win bet is not nearly so much fun now as it is starting to look pretty safe, but if you are serious about that 4 win conference prediction, double down.

I don't need to bet anything to enjoy/suffer. My thought is, the worse I look and the better Kid looks means THE TEAM is winning! That's what I care about.
IUPUI is NOT a MAC level team. We can't clown away a stretch run against any MAC team and win. We saw that last year. But I didn't say a word about the apocalypse. I just honestly don't think RIGHT NOW we have enough components and discipline to win 8 MAC games. Maybe 6. But, in a later post I also said we COULD do better than that should we address several glaring issues by January. I'm not gonna stick my head in the sand and I can't fart rainbows. (I'm leaving that to the unicorn) But I will be extremely happy if we exceed what I think we'll do against MAC teams night in and night out.

It's a sign of how much we have suffered as fans that even our best and most loyal are expecting pain, some even seeking it our with negative thinking! But we all have been there, and watching football games did not help us in the optimism department. I agree with the "right now" or at least felt that way walking out of Worthen last night. But, that walk to the car after the Valpo game was a different one. Let's not forget that game when assessing where we are now. The next few games are important to tell whether we are a wildly inconsistent team, or whether it was just a bad shooting game against IUPUI. We have won 5 straight, and in the games since Bradley in most we closed strong enough to win. EKU killed us hitting contested shots, not a collapse, we played hard enough to win in that game. We have played hard in all those games, even against IUPUI there was good effort and we were not sucking wind at the end of games like last year. I agree we were not very sharp against IUPUI for much of the game. We had more than a few bad shots, bad passes and those are glaring errors which will lose games against the best MAC teams. Lots to work on. IUPUI came up with a couple of key extra possessions on long rebounds, too. When IUPUI was pressuring our shooters and staying with us outside, we were slow to adjust and deciding to take the ball to the basket, this happened some against Valpo when we played a smaller lineup when we had foul trouble in the fist half. But for me, our season stats say we are a better FT shooting team and a better shooting team. We shot poorly compared to our best play, that made the game close. We may have to expect that will happen with a team that shoots as many 3's. We had more than few shots dead on and down into the basket that rattled out. That we missed some good shots that normally might have fallen is part of the story. The game would not have been close with a few of those shots, despite other poor plays. There were some bright spots there, too. The defense was good. Effort was good. I thought we worked the ball well, were moving and IUPUI played hard defense and deserves some credit for checking our outside shooters and not giving them open shots. We also showed we can attack the press when they ganged up on the guards in the back court. We did not play passively, and House looked pretty good with the ball when we were 3 on 2. Tyler played pretty well, avoided errors, went to the basket a few times. Sellers can't get his shot to fall, but he took a charge and played D. Our bench was overall solid against a team that was pretty deep and tried to wear us down. Even Wells had a good looking stretch of play. I sure don't remember a game where we had more team blocked shots since Hakeem Olajuwan, er, I mean Lonnie Jones, played for us. Moses had his best game on both ends, it was like he was reading the General's forum posts and it lit a fire under him. 10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 blocks, 20 minutes. That's a good stat line, and maybe especially his offense was surprisingly good. NO or one of the weaker teams, certainly Pepperdine and ISU will test us, and if we don't play well should give the coaches plenty of things to work on to get ready for the MAC season. I don't see any reason to question the coaching or player development we are seeing and instead of being worried about collapse, see that we are getting something good going here.

The 10 blocks are outstanding. I'd be happy with 5 a game. If we keep that up....
My favorite stat is 6-2. Winning is contagious. The really good thing is the guys are finding ways to do it, whereas previously we'd been finding ways to lose.

Proctorp says: "I sincerely have to disagree with the General about Moses." It seems I've become the resident Moses basher around here, but I'm not sure how. I have said that I can envision him possibly becoming a starter on a championship team with continued hard work and improvement. Then I also expressed serious doubt that he will ever rate with our tip top big men like Kidd, McCurdy, Payne, Jones etc. I would think to disagree with my position you would have to project Moses as the equal of these players....which seems a good bit premature to me. Some may be disappointed with this image because it only depicts Moses parting the Red Sea, instead of the Pacific Ocean:

How much lower can we go? Going GAGA over a three point win against oooooweee pooooweee. In days of old we to celebrate wins over the likes of Kansas, UCLA, Michigan, and Purdue. Quite pathetic if you ask me, but then, no one did! Can't wait to see the power house lineup of opponents for next year's schedule.

I don't get the fascination with Davis. 4 official turnovers (7 by my count). Rushes possessions in the last minutes and, almost single handedly, blows a 10 point lead. I'm not the only one scratching my head. What am I not seeing?

Davis is better late in a game I believe and is more of a threat to score than Smith...that said he still makes some bonehead moves like passes we don't need late, etc. He also made some keep assists late against Valpo

Every post I read says it was a game we didn't play as well as we want. That doesn't represent a disaster and portend of future calamity as some seem to be worried about. The "days of old" group around here is pretty big, we all remember the past. I have had season tickets for 40 years...Everybody wants us to get back to being one of the best mid major programs, I think we are seeing progress toward that, and given where we've been the last decade there is some reason to celebrate that progress.
