CMU is a very high scoring team, tough playing at home. This is a game that whatever the layoff could get out of hand at the offset. Even if we are not particularly flat.
If we aren't hitting 3's and they come out hot, it's a long night. I have not seen CMU play, maybe we can stop them cold, but I think this is one of those games that we have to be very sharp offensively.
Not a matter of being flat, but more a case we have to be really revved up and hitting shots.

Are we good enough to win games like this or not? If we aim to challenge for anything at all, and we’re allegedly a great defensive team, then should we not expect to win this game? Buffalo just hammered CMU at CMU. We hammered Buffalo. If we’re gonna win a damn thing we have to prove we can be consistent and that means beating the teams that have been handled by teams we handled.
Or are we ultimately just a .500 team again and will never know game to game what we’ll get?

No. Very few teams are. We're a narrow favorite but a favorite that is no sure thing. All kinds of things can let a team that isn't quite as good win a game.
They play very well, we could play a good but not great game and they win. We are not THAT much better than Buffalo or THAT much worse than Akron, variation is normal. For us defense is a constant relative to most teams, but shooting is not. And even a very good defense can't always contain a high scoring team.
You're hoping for too much if you expect us to always have our A game. Or our B game for that matter. And for the other team to never play a great game.

I’m hoping for too much for hoping/expecting us to play with some consistency and compete for a championship. And if that’s hoping for too much then what’s the point? We’ve yet to challenge for a championship under Whitford and it’s year 7. I guess it’s never gonna happen and who cares, right?

"Compete for a championship." Sure. Where I disagree is pushing that to always consistent, maybe the pipe dream we all have, that is hoping for too much.
This is a single regular season game where we are favored, not some litmus test for whether we care about winning championships or not. Or are able to. Maybe this is a case where we shouldn't make this game such a big deal, either way, that's all. It's not exactly that we don't care.
We could lose this one big and still win a championship. We could smash CMU on the road, and have a great regular season and still NOT win the championship in Cleveland.

No I get it. Mostly I just miss that feeling of ‘knowing’ we’re going to win games. Anymore it’s just a hope.

Note CMU's leading scorer Kevin McKay (15 ppg) has not played in their past 3 games & may be returning Saturday. It would certainly be a plus if he remains out another game.

It figures he’d return in time to play us.

Actually hope he plays. Want to play teams at their best regular season. Now in the tournament, a whole different story.

Agree. We have to overcome obstacles to get to the top.

I think BSU wins this one 78-75, but loses at BG. Would love to grab both on road but I think a split is more realistic. Losing both would be a disappointment and would make Ohio game an absolute must win.

I don't always agree with you but this is a valid point.
