Mid Major Basketball's checking of contracts lists Whit at # 6 in the conference in pay. It shows his salary at $315,000 a yr. I will state Hawkins contract has so many bonuses it is hard to know what he will get. He is listed at $225,000 before bonuses which is lowest in the league.( yet he is the senior coach based on yrs in the position)

Given our middle of the pack history and less than stellar performance in the MAC tourney it's probably where it should be.

More interesting question which we regularly argue here is what should we do to attract the next coach.

I have to look at being competitive in the MAC tournament. We have to win the thing once every five or six years and maybe go to NIT once during that time also. If a coach can't deliver that then he doesn't need to a coach in Muncie. Give him NADA.

People mention NIT, but that is less likely than NCAA unless you are a heavy favorite, highly ranked and lose in the MAC tourney. It's a great tourney, very competitive and interesting, but I don't want to be a favorite and miss the big dance!
So sign me up for winning the tournament a fair share of the time, forget the NIT. Won't turn it down, but don't think it defines our quality.
