I've had this discussion with a friend before, but figured I'd bring it here.
The 2001 Cards were ranked #16 in the first poll after the Maui Madness where they beat Kansas and UCLA before dropping the title to Duke by 12. At the time, Duke was ranked #1, UCLA #3, and Kansas #4 in the nation.
The discusison: IF Ball State had beaten #1 Duke in the title game, what would their ranking have been in that first AP poll? They would be coming off three wins in three days against Top 5 teams.
My contention, though I know it never would have ACTUALLY happened, is that had they won, they should have been ranked #1 overall. To win those three games, in three days, I think would have been deserving of the #1 spot.
Where do y'all think they would have been ranked? Discuss.

Deserving of #1? Yes. Would it have happened? Doubtful. The jump in the rankings would've been too big. We certainly would've been our highest ever though!

I’ll play....I’d say #10 assuming a small margin of victory.

I'm guessing #8 due to BSU not starting even in others receiving votes category in the preseason.

No way they jump from 16 to 1....more likely lower top 10. If I remember correctly we were down by 20 but made up some points and ended losing by 12...is that correct?...It seems to me I was glad we did not fold and let them run away with the score
