Objective: Create an OverThePylon Ball State Basketball Hall of Fame voted on by board members.
Rules: Players must have finished their playing days at Ball State. Voting should be based solely on their play on the court. If voters want to attach some perceived sense of morality to their vote, so be it, but that is not a stated objective of this Hall.
Voting: Voters should submit their top 10 Ball State players in order with (1) being their top choice. No. 1 on each voter's list shall receive 10 points, No. 2 shall receive 9, No. 3 will get 8, etc. At the end of the voting period, the players with the top 5 point totals will be inducted as that year's class of honorees. Each board member may submit one list of 10 players.
2020 inductees Bonzi Wells Ray McCallum Dan Palombizio Theron Smith Larry Bullington

My votes for our inaugural class:
1. Bonzi Wells 2. Ray McCallum 3. Theron Smith 4. Steve Payne 5. Larry Bullington 6. Dan Palombizio 7. Jim Regenold 8. Ed Butler 9. Duane Clemens 10. Paris McCurdy
Admittedly heavily skewed toward players I actually saw play with a few nods to folks whose place in the record book make them appealing.

Good list. Chris Williams had a great two years and would be a shoe in if he’d played even three.

That's the issue with most HOF entries.
Look at baseball and the NFL. Most of us are old timers and remember the old time names that come up and the ones not making it after years and then are forgotten maybe forever. Flip side there are newer players nominated and named who I confess I don't know, never saw play.
Part of that is the expansion of franchises. So many teams, divisions, players and often if you are teams fan, you only see some teams just for a few games every year, and just can't follow it all.

Any list that doesn't include Payne can't be taken seriously. He was absolutely unstoppable. Payne was MAC Tourney MVP twice and First Team All MAC three times which happens to be how many years he played for us.
I never saw Ed Butler play but he AVERAGED 17 rebounds in his career. C'mon he has to be in.
BTW, all Larry Bullington did was average 23.6 over THREE years and was a two-time All American honorable mention, once by the Sporting News. I would submit, you didn't have to see a player in person to know whether they are a HOFer or not. There are hundreds of players in many sports who I have never seen play but their credentials speak for themselves.

There's a very tough decision right off the bat: Bonzi vs Ray for the 1 spot. A classic apples vs oranges choice.
No doubt that Bonzi was by far the superior player. But Ray meant more to the program overall, even if you don't factor in the coaching stint. I guess in a fantasy draft I take Bonzi first, but in the HOF I'll take Ray.
Here is a 3rd criteria that's very difficult. What if you are a coach, you are recruiting Bonzi and Ray and they both want to come but you have only one scholarship. And somehow you have full knowledge of what sort of college player both will be. Who do you choose? I think if I'm a MAC coach I might take Ray....I think, but if I'm and ACC coach I'd take Bonzi. (Remember, all Ray's stats are without the 3 pt shot, which would have been like a lay up for him) But more likely what I would do is plant drugs on one of my current players and kick them off the team, then take both. (Recruiters recruit!)

I believe you but without seeing them you really have to take the time to type their name into google and check real life stats... I do not have time for the truth
