Im saying this.. Walton can warm up.. Whit calls KJ's ankle a "complicated" situation.. KJ is the only member of the team the media is not allowed access too. So draw your own conclusions but let me add this again. KJ will play when KJ wants too.. You can draw your on conclusions from that Whit has talked about the delicate psyche of his team and the difficulty of integrating talented youngsters with established players, so what the hell ... I'll just wildly speculate that Mr. SEC Transfer isn't thrilled about being benched in favor of a freshman.

KJ is truly hurt...maybe he can warm up but there is a fair chance he will go for a 6th season so frankly some of you are really off the mark here! I believe Whit would love to have him.
I believe on a positive note if we stay healthy this team wins the West and goes to Cleveland with a bye....I still like our chances. Before you say no to winning the West, we are back loaded with home MAC games where we are undefeated...I projected 11-7....maybe 12-6.

Well, it sure would help if somebody with first-hand knowledge of the situation would address it. Until they do, I'll continue to wildly speculate.

If they think he can get a 6th year and whit truly wants him back then say it! Just saying “it’s complicated” and not allowing that kid to speak to the media it sounds like they’re hiding something. He looks fine warming up and dunks and all that. If his ankle was that bad they’d not have him out there dunking.

It does make a lot of sense to have him back since we'll be kinda thin at the 2 guard spot next year with only Ish, Bum and Kroft.
Then again, maybe next season, with Teague and Mallers out of the way, is when Whit unveils the much anticipated 5-guard lineup.

Hazen Has a bad back that hurts him everyday but he plays through it. Mallers has a bad ankle, Shoulder and hip and at some point needs a couple surgerys.. He plays through it. KJ has an ankle that allows him to practice and take part in warm ups. He does not play.. Lets say for conversation sake that he could play on the ankle but he is wanting a 6th year. For that to happen he has to apply on basis of an injury and a loop hole from his original transfer.. 50/50 chance he gets if not he is done. So is it better for us to have him at 85% this year or maybe at 95% next year. Then the wild kicker comes into play what happens if he gets the 6th year and then transfers to another school.. What did BSU gain from allowing him to sit. What if the coaches want him to play but he is simply refusing too? Now we know for a fact its "complicated" but saying KJ's ankle is hurt and we are seeking a 6th year is not complicated. So why is KJ the only member of the team unavailable for comment thats weird right.. What might someone ask?

If you’re not gonna play then don’t dress, don’t practice. Walton has aspirations to play overseas after college. I think he wants to have the surgery and doesn’t want to take a chance he could mess it up further. I also think there’s a better than average chance if he gets the 6th year he will transfer. Again. I wouldn’t boot him off the team but I also wouldn’t let him dress. Just my opinion.

Are they going to redshirt anybody this year?

Are they going to redshirt anybody this year? Whit already blew that option for Hendricks and Croft. Don’t be at all surprised if Kroft leaves. Huggins should transfer down so he can play somewhere. Thomas is a big mystery.

Huggins just doesn't fit this offense, has to play within reach of the basket...on this or another team configured differently he might be a reserve with limited minutes, but have a little more utility. He adds to practice as a long armed defender, but Hazen and Teague as long as they don't let him bang on them can beat him like a rug if they have any room underneath. Teague is beating everyone this year, so maybe not that bad a sign.
Kroft has rep as a decent kid, handicapped by parental meddling at every stage of his career. No doubt his parents want more, but the transfer if happens likely a side trip to JUCO. Then shopping his talents at mid major alternatives. Is he really likely to emerge from that merry go round with better chances than here? Looks to me he can move the into rotation next year if he stays.
Hendricks is probably where we would expect, needs physical development, has good chances to play next year. Thomas as you say is a mystery. But last year showed a fair amount in practice, apparently not playing at the intensity level the staff wants. If the light bulb lights up, who knows?
Thomas coulda been the missing piece we needed this year, KJ and Thomas together were expected to be a boost off the bench at least. The others would have needed to have been a surprise, or had a very rapid development.

You nailed it on the parental meddling re: Kroft.

Is the annual “soap opera” a new millennial thing or did it always go on in the background and I wasn’t aware of it?

OK Boomer. It isn't the game we knew even 25 years ago. Much less what we knew as kids.

This isn't just Whitford. Look at the team we just beat. Their coach was licking his chops for this season a year ago.
Almost every MAC team is seeing weird stuff.
We've just been ahead of the curve for a few years maybe. It's new normal.
