With German finding his stride I don’t think we’ll win this one. We don’t have the ability to guard him. And quite honestly I don’t trust Whitford to keep us moving forward, because he’s not proved he can in 7 years.

Or it's good timing. The law of averages says they're due to lose, especially on the road. This does look like a bad matchup for us on paper. Not sure we have an answer for German, and they're even better defensively than we are. This could be one seriously boring game!

Northern is an interesting case. They are a mediocre mid-pack MAC team per KenPom. But they are on top of the West at 8-3 with two of the losses being Akron and at BG, although several of their wins have been close.
German is the only player averaging double figures and has led them in scoring in 23 out of 24 games. Surely teams are keying on him, but yet they aren't stopping him. His shooting percentages are not too good, but he gets to the line a ton. Maybe he has grown up some over the last year and now provides positive leadership? Seems like he had earlier been involved in various incidents suggesting immaturity and stupidity. He's definitely a volume shooter. Sometimes it works for a team to have a definite offensive leader and focal point, even if that player is not especially efficient. It just allows everyone to concentrate on their own role because it's already known who will take all the shots. That would tend to explain how they keep knocking out wins without being an overly powerful team.

Guess who the opponent was in the only NIU game where German wasn't the leading scorer. Just guess.
That's right. THE WOOD! The Wood That Is Long.

Longwood probably extended... their defense and blocked every opening, while providing strong backside help and executing doubleteams. Also making German work on defense with their penetrations and drives to the hole.

I hear premature shots are a real problem for The 'Wood.

I’m not sure who guards him. Thompson? Or put a longer guy on him? Or do you let German get his and stop everyone else?

We struggle to score as it is and niu will get in our faces and be quicker and more physical. We need to be aggressive and locked in from the jump and play 40 minutes. Try to get German frustrated and off his spot.
