The most excitement the basketball program has had in the last 20 years was the potential cage match with Ronnie that ended up with the administration refusing to enter the ring.

There is no money to buy out Whit's contract. I think that's pretty clear. He's not going anywhere. His contract expires April 30, 2022. He'll be here until then. Don't disagree at all. If the recruiting trend continues, we are looking at the next 2 years of under 500 basketball. My prediction though is he will schedule all weak sisters for the non conference portion of the schedule to save his ass.

I have, for the most part, have not paid much attention this year. I think it is time to move on from the coach and there is nothing exciting about this team. And each time they almost draw me in, they help me out by laying an egg. I mentioned in another thread that they are 1-5 in games decided by 5 points or less (1-6 if you move that to 6 points). Anyway, when the opposing team goes on a run or it comes down to crunch time, instead of going inside or trying to get close buckets, they seem content to launch away from long range. It's great if it goes. Most of time it doesn't. You can watch the end of the Western game for that and the near collapse against Northern. I don't get upset about it anymore. This is exactly the reason why I didn't get excited about the NIU win. Despite their record, NIU is just another extremely flawed MAC team. And the way we won is disturbing. We have a horrible possession up 1 point, and end up having to chuck up a terrible three with 25 seconds left in the game. If it doesn't miraculously (and in very lucky fashion) go in, guarantee we end up losing that game, as we were totally on our heels. It's just not fun at all.

Just like at the end of Billy Taylor's run, the schedule will get worse and worse. You can take that to the bank. In the end, as happens with most coaches whose welcome has long since worn out, Billy couldn't even win against a horrible schedule.

Yawn.
As I have told you guys already, BSU will finish somewhat above .500 in the MAC, but go basically nowhere in the tourney. Also Whitford will be extended by BSU's dim bulb administration.
Whitford, being an utterly mediocre MAC coach due to his lack of recruiting horsepower, will putter along at a mediocre level indefinitely....sometimes being above .500 in the MAC and sometimes below. The administration will time the extensions so that they occur after one of the above .500 seasons.
Goetz has shown absolutely no sign whatsoever that she has any inclination, or capacity, to identify and hire an outstanding coach. If she has ever said or done anything outside of regurgitate the usual conventional wisdom talking points, I am not aware of it. So even if Whitford was to be replaced, I'd bet that BSU would compile a list of candidates based on all the usual, standard qualifications, meaning that we would shoot pretty low to avoid being out-bid by the better financed programs also looking for a coach.
It's just too depressing to care about. Unless and until BSU (miraculously) gets some sort of imaginative, innovative, original thinking person somewhere in the President/AD/Coach chain, the basketball program is stuck in the dismal rut it has been in for 20 years. It’s called getting Balls!

Reality's stats to me show the same February swoon that this program has pulled off forever(7 seasons with Dimwit). Be shocked if we win tomorrow night.
