Newcomers overall proving a good group.
Needed Acree and Thomas to be better by now to reach potential for this team.
Also for that I'd hoped for a little more from Mallers, and much more KJ.
Still we cover spread here, go to NIU with a good chance.
Call me disappointed but not like last year, nor an epic crash.

Looks like giving Whit a bit of credit that he has brought Ace and Thomas along nicely is justified; just before you jump on my comment what did you project our MAC record to be??
Chances are not better than 10-8! I said 11-7 most of you have no chance not rubbing it in but it’s a fact so at least on your projection unless you were one of the other two that also said 11-7 eat a bit of humble pie

Bench play came through. Good game. Now head to Dekalb and beat the Huskies! Taking care of business.

Im the first one to admit I thought this season might be a disaster but it was not.. Lets not get excited though we are battling for the 4th or 5th seed.

That was a fun game though.. Several mentions about Thomas I was told earlier in the year that needed him to be consistent in practice and that he needed to mature a bit. Hopefully he has now and sees what it takes he is by far our most athletic player. He could be really good

We’re gonna need Tahjai to be that dominant player he was earlier in the MAC Season to beat NIU at their place. And Coleman to get back on his game. And ish to look to create more and shoot less.
And we gotta shut down every player not named German because he’s gonna get his.

Hopefully he has now and sees what it takes he is by far our most athletic player. He could be really good Question: Do our transfers learn anything in the year that they sit out? Because you'd think that work ethic would have been put in place last year, or did our coaches just ignore him for a year? I mean I'm sure the coaches don't ignore them, but so many really don't seem to show that they benefit in any way from having that extra year to "learn our system" and what it takes to contribute. My expectation for kids like Thomas and Acree is that they should have learned last year what it takes to play in this program and that by the time this season rolled around, they should have been ready to hit the ground running. Instead, we can barely trust them on the court for the first 25 games of the season. I'm glad they're playing well now, but I also look back at our schedule and think that if those two had really benefited from that transfer year and were ready to play at the beginning of the season, we could be sitting at 22-8 right now instead of 17-13, and already have our tournament bye with an even higher seed.

Expected more of Thomas
Acree not 100% last year, I expected him to take time. Thought he'd play behind KJ Turned out to be Coleman. He was behind him in development and with Coleman doing so well didn't get minutes. Not a huge surprise there

We are either a 4th or a 5th seed in the MAC for crying out loud. How in the world is this a major accomplishment? for the record, I had us going 10-8 in the conference but regardless, this is nothing to be ecstatic about.

I had us 11-7. Agree with the above posts about Teague, Acree and Thomas. Nice game from Bum;I like his defensive effort. He's not there yet but is coming.

But not a failure or a meltdown or incompetent coaching either. Conference slightly stronger than expected and KJ disappeared, others a little slow to develop. We could have done better with all going right, nobody will argue differently.

This is an up year in Whitford terms. He has managed to sort of balance the team with the sort of emergence of Teague in his 5th year. After this many years, it's pretty obvious that Whitford operates in the 4th-12th range of the MAC. Those who relish mediocrity will be quite satisfied with this.
But, you know, we have that super dynamic AD, who is no doubt chaffing over the mediocrity, and whose head is bursting with ideas about how to revive the basketball program with a killer coach.
