With the tournament now having been cancelled, if Walton gets his extra year of eligibility he may be one of the few winners out this mess; having said that, I can't really agree with his approach based upon what was being reported/speculated here about his injury. But that's neither here nor there at this point.

He can help us next year. Full strength and with determination to play hard, he could be a starter or real plus off the bench at least.
If this kid could shoot.... Either than or he could handle the ball really well, he'd be likely to play somewhere after college. But unless he improves on of those areas it's hard for me to see him very successful. Might play overseas.
Transfer is a possibility but if to a lower level competition where he racked up better numbers, I doubt that would help him much if at all. Expect to see him back if he gets the extra year.

For what? A PhD in basket weaving?

Ok. But if he needs it that bad why not do it way back when they shut him down? If he needs it now he needed it then. Why the whole, “he might be back soon” act? Why was he dressing and warming up until just a couple weeks ago? Ankle couldn’t have been that bad or he’d have been in sweats for a month. He was never going to play again this season even if he was physically good enough to go so the charade made no sense.
I know, it was complicated.

Some thought he would recover.
May be like Zach Gunn. He tried to rest and play with pain, hoping to get better. Became clear it would not.

He needed the same surgery before the season started. He was able to play he chose to set out to go after the medical.

I am pretty sure he doesn't really look forward to more school...

I know these days it's about the individual and not the team, so I'm sure his current teammates all support him.
But if I were a teammate of Walton and he bailed on us in a year when we had a legit chance to make the tourney, he wouldn't exactly be my favorite person. I'd be encouraging him to look for another team.

Yes, he likely could have played at 85% but I believe they decided to go the 6th year route at 100%. And, I don’t know but believe they kept the door open to play if we didn’t get some pretty good feelings re 6th year
I doubt anyone could perform much better than 85% if we required surgery!
