So, while we’re all suffering through tournament withdrawal not counting the NCAA’s which will undoubtedly cause me the DT’s. let’s discuss next year!
Well we’ll never know good or bad how the tournament would have gone but what we do know is we out performed what most board members thought and maybe not quite as good as some of us expected.
But, factually, we won 19 and went 11-7 in the conference winning the West and earning a 3rd seed! Arguably we were as hot as anyone having won each of our last two games by about 20!
We lose one excellent senior, and a good senior and a serviceable walk on.
Next years team should be solid as we have many returners. This is my depth list by position:
Guards Ish Boogey KJ Bum Forwards Gunn Thomas Acree Kroft Centers. Hazen Hendricks Huggins
You can disagree but it looks to me like potentially we will play with 3 guards like this year!
I have Hazen playing Center as he did this year essentially playing behind Teague but hopefully Hendricks works hard and is ready so Hazen can play Forward along with back up Center. Fact is Hazen plays pretty good defense and rebounds!
We could use a stud Center which we all say! I’d love to get a JC transfer to play with this group!
Key question is how much did Hendricks learn the system and how much better did he get playing against Teague every day? And, will he put on pounds over the Summer? Heard he has already gained. I said after Costa Rica that he could play along with Thomas and Kroft. My bet is Kroft leaves as he will still not see a lot of playing time above those competing!
Look for big improvements from Gunn! He is taking it very seriously and knows he must get stronger off the dribble but the kid can flat our shoot!
I won’t project our overall record or MAC record yet...need to view a few more things!
Regards

I don't know why anyone would argue with you that we're going to play 3 guards next year. We play 3 guards every year.
I also don't know why you list Kroft and Acree as forwards; they're guards.
If someone is transferring, I'd hope it's Walton and not Kroft. Kroft, at least as far as we know, would like to play at Ball State. Walton, as far as we know, is more interested in building his resume for whatever comes after Ball State. If Whitford acquiesces to Walton's desire to resume build (which would likely include giving him a freer hand on offense), we're probably screwed. And the way things played out over the last half of the season would lead one to believe that Whitford has already agreed to that. Walton's not coming back for another year to prove what a great defender and rebounder he is.
Oh yes, and factually, we won 18 games this year, not 19.

The only thing missing was a prediction of going undefeated, winning the MAC regular season title, the MAC Tournament, the NCAA Tournament, and curing coronavirus.

My 2020-2021 predictions are as follows:
Undefeated season, which obviously wins us the MAC regular season title A MAC Tournament championship A cancelled NCAA Tournament The discovery of COVID-20 that ruins our chances at a run for the National Championship Also Desmond Bane petitions the NCAA for another year of eligibility and transfers to BSU

We really won 17 games (I refuse to count non-D1 wins). Kroft is highly likely to transfer given family history and his daddy's involvement. Totally agree on Walton. I would have kicked him off the team back in January if I were the coach. We might be better than I originally thought next year given the emergence of Thomas and Acree, but it will still be "Whit decent", meaning we win mid to upper teens with a really weak schedule in a weak league. I do see drama with this team, though.

I agree Kroft will transfer but I believe Whit would have negotiated KJ’s return!
I’m so sorry I was off one game on record.

Depending on the development of our Bigs or recruitment of Big, we will be a good team. Thomas and Acree looking real good. Gunn could be good. I see a winning MAC record and another year similar or better than this year. As for this year, I say we would have won the MAC Tournament, and lost in the National Championship by one point in overtime. But National Runner-up is ok.

Totally agree David other than I had us losing 69-67 as the runner up.....does 69-67 remind any of you of a particular game?

There are some indications that the NCAA is going to grant an additional year of eligibility to this year's senior class due to the unusual circumstances. That would unique and bizarre benefiting all teams equally.
I'll believe it when I see it.

He knew that this was all going to happen and he would have Teague and Mallers for another year. He's the modern day Nostradamus.

Still discussing winter I'm kinda torn on this. For men's basketball you're making this decision for 25-30% of teams which were going to play maybe 3-4 more games at most. Everybody else's season was basically already over. Swimming and Diving? Season basically over. Gymnastics? Season basically over. Is men's volleyball considered a winter or spring sport. I assume winter, but they still had a lot of matches to play, so I'd be agreeable to granting VB seniors another year. Everybody else, I'm kinda feeling you're done.
