I will be real interested to follow the fallout from cancelling the tournaments, cancelling spring sports, and allowing spring athletes to have another year of eligibility, in terms of the costs associated with each.
The NCAA won't be getting paid to broadcast the tournament. But schools won't have to fund Spring sports. Schools/NCAA will have to decide if extra scholarships are available next year. How will those scholarships and extra costs be funded, as schools will likely not receive as much money from the NCAA this year as they would have.
The NCAA has insurance, but a depleted cash reserve (due to paying out so much in recent litigation) has severely limited the association's ability to weather a situation like this. It's likely that money will get paid out, but how much, and how little reserve the NCAA has left afterward, will be a storyline to follow in the coming months.
