Feeling good about the football program this fall. Michigan will be tough, hope we play them like we did the last time. IU is a toss up. After that, feel we have a chance in every game. Great group of returning staters and depth. Feel really good about Qb, running back, receivers (especially), and the line. On defense we have a great group of lbs, maybe the strongest front line since Rush the Crush, and some good dbs. I say 7 wins for sure, possible 8, nine is not out of the question. Haven’t been drinking cool aide, but about to finish a pot of coffee - this staying home thing is getting to me.

Iu has recruited to the point they are just better than we are all over the field. They have size and speed at key spots that we don’t have and their QB is already a pro prospect. (They’re going to miss Peyton Ramsey though).
I hope we are competitive and I’d love to beat them again but it will not be considered a toss up going in.

I think an undefeated season is more likely than it has been for a long, long time. Of course it would simultaneously be a winless season, but, you know me, I always look on the bright side.

Once again the General made me laugh out loud and I am sitting in my home by myself. The IU game will be decided by how well our defense plays and how well we protect the ball (read no turnovers).

IU and Michigan will destroy us. We played IU close last year. Why do you say they will destroy us? Not saying we will win, but I think we can be competitive. Especially since it is early in the year.

Especially since it is early in the year. Fair question. This is painful to post, but IU, as a program, gained a lot of confidence and elevated its level a great deal as last year wore on. They now play at a totally different level than us in terms of recruiting, talent, coaching, depth, expectations, fundamentals, etc.

Sure, but we still didn’t beat ND. No victory there. Until we beat a name again we’re just treading water. I don’t get too excited about just coming close.

If you’re still focusing on wins and losses I’m afraid you’ll never get it. Closer than expected losses and preseason predictions are where we hang our hats.

IU has become merely a money game since they are using their greater resources to better ends than they have. Expecting wins in money games is silly. In those games wins are very rare and to be celebrated. Close "competitive" games are probably something to celebrate as much as any win where we paste a lower division foe.
Still possible, don't get me wrong. But actually wins and losses except in conference against other MAC teams are about the only thing that counts at all.

I was at the game and many of the BIG games. If you could not get excited or feel proud about being a Cardinal the way we played the Irish, something’s wrong. We competed against a very good Irish team. The money the spend on football is huge! I was at the Michigan game, the Clemson game, Kentucky (where even their radio announcer after the game said we got robbed) and we competed in all of them. These and others like IU, Nebraska or Illinois where you have to be proud. Our entire athletic budget falls short of the football program budgets at all these schools. I’m a Proud a realistic Cardinal alumni and fan. When it comes to the MAC, I am not happy when we can’t compete - no excuses, play the game.
