Didn’t say a word about not being proud. But at some point getting fired up and saying “we played them close!!” doesn’t get it done anymore. I always proud. But I’m not going to be giddy over a close loss. Especially years after the fact. You can be proud and not thrilled with losing at the same time. I’m tremendously proud of our sweet 16 run. But I’m still pissed we lost to UNLV, not excited that it was close. And I went to the rally when the team got back and I can tell you they were not happy with close, they were angry and disappointed.
And Very true. We cannot keep blowing games like we did vs wmu, Cmu, and Kent and get anywhere.

Sure, but we still didn’t beat ND. No victory there. Until we beat a name again we’re just treading water. I don’t get too excited about just coming close. I was at the game and many of the BIG games. If you could not get excited or feel proud about being a Cardinal the way we played the Irish, something’s wrong. We competed against a very good Irish team. The money they spend on football is huge! I was at the Michigan game, the Clemson game, Kentucky (where even their radio announcer after the game said we got robbed) and we competed in all of them. These and others like IU, Nebraska or Illinois where you have to be proud. Our entire athletic budget falls far short of the football program budgets at all these schools. I’m a Proud and realistic Cardinal alumni and fan. When it comes to the MAC, I am not happy when we can’t compete - no excuses, play the game.

I think an undefeated season is more likely than it has been for a long, long time. Of course it would simultaneously be a winless season, but, you know me, I always look on the bright side. 0 in the L column > 0 in the W column in my book! I'll take it

I dont know it feels like we can stay in it offensively but we would need to play near perfect defense. Ive seen no reason to think we will not have a couple break downs which either IU or michigan will make us pay on.. I think we lose by 21 or so to IU and Michigan might be worse

A lot depends on our special teams too. We blew the NC state game on special teams alone. If we are still sloppy there we’ll have no chance against big 10 teams.
Michigan has a defense we just don’t see. They are usually pretty stout. Just not against Ohio St. ....

Just not against Ohio St. .... yea your right Michigans D will probably be able to shut us down especially in the second half... These games typically see a decent lesser team compete in the first half and then the depth takes over and the lesser team gets shut down in the second half.. The lesser team then starts pressing and makes mistakes and a 14 or so point games turns into a 21-24 point loss pretty quickly

If I am recalling correctly, ND ended up being pretty meh that year (as with most years in recent memory). IMHO, IU has more talent than ND now (and a better coach) - ugh, that hurts...

And you guys are giving ND way too much credit. They just aren't very good. Way overhyped by the media and a weak schedule every year. Allen is in the middle of doing a really nice job at IU - deserves much more credit than you're giving him.

Allen is in the middle of doing a really nice job at IU - deserves much more credit than you're giving him. IU fans are torn on Allen. He is a great recruiter, but he is a bad game manager. My brother-in law compares him to Tom Crean. He is a good guy and motivator, but he sometimes makes questionable decisions like in the collapse in the bowl game to Tennessee. From an outsider I think he is the best coach they have had in a while. Also, Notre Dame is clearly better than IU.

You seem to forget that BSU at 5-7 had the best record (along with Nebraska) of the teams IU beat.

I think we pull the nearly impossible and upset one of them
