90% of todays recruits do not care about campus, academics or even the name of the school. They want to know about what type of gear your wearing, How much PT they are going to get, what amenities you have.. Its really not arguable every once in a while you get a Mallers type where academics does matter. Everyone else thinks their college choice is a pit stop on there way to the league. They take general studies classes and skate by the best they can And with the relationships you’ve had with coaching staffs of both basketball and football you’ve heard the stories first hand. I can still remember schudel being very upset about the lack of improvements to the football stadium and specifically mentioned losing 2 starter quality defensive backs to BG because of facilities. The beautiful campus had no effect. The beauty of our campus IS a nice selling point but you have to have the bells and whistles and swag plus a coaching staff that can SELL. I hope we can get Griffin (assuming he’s healthy enough). I’m one who’s glad we got windham. But overall, Whitford’s record shows he’s an ok recruiter with ok results. But nothing near championship level. He’s not been able to sell his program and our school/campus to enough difference makers. Especially at the 4/5 spot. (Teague finally did become one this past season. But he truly was more of a 3 in style of game). And if you say he’s been very successful at recruiting then he can’t coach, because the proof is in the pudding. If we’ve had really good recruits we sure haven’t gotten results from it every March. And We can’t keep living on/waiting on transfers. You know this is true and Ill share it. Its a football thing but I Imagine basketball is probably the same.. We get alot and some of our best recruits after their official visit and its not the campus tour that gets them. Its who they get paired with and how much fun they have at the party. A lot of time and effort are put in to pairing like players and hosts so that each recruit gets to do what they think is fun.

(That coaches don’t want to know about). Was the night “lit” enough. Can a kid see himself hanging with his brothers for the next 4-5 years at bsu.

Thats the grey area we have seen pictures but if I kid has fun we more than likely get him a day or two later.. I do remember one time though a kid got scared away lol

Here is a sample email my son received: Tyler, We demand a lot out of our players; however, we also feel that it is important that we give them as much as possible in return. The Illinois State athletic department has an exclusive apparel contract with Nike, and our baseball program is one of only a handful of programs in the nation to have an exclusive equipment deal with Rawlings. All of our players will receive the following gear: 3 Nike hats (2 game hats and 1 practice hat) 1 Rawlings batting helmet Nike batting gloves 3 Rawlings aluminum bats 2 Rawlings wood bats 1 Rawlings glove every year Rawlings catcher's gear (catchers only) 1 pair of Nike cleats 1 pair of Nike turf shoes 1 pair of Nike running shoes 1 pair of Nike cross training shoes for the weight room 3 Nike game uniforms 3 Nike game pants 2 Nike practice uniforms 2 pairs of practice pants 3 Nike Dri-Fit shirts Nike Pro Long Sleeve Nike Winter Jacket Nike travel suit 3 Pairs of Nike sliding shorts 3 Pairs of Nike Dri-Fit Socks Nike belt Large Nike travel bag Nike bat bag Rawlings.png Nike Team.png

Just one example of exactly what Im talking about Here is one on facilities: Tyler Top-Level Facilities Part of being a top-flight program is having top-flight facilities. Check out the facilities our players enjoy on a daily basis. Duffy Bass Field The 2009 season marked the opening of the newly renovated Duffy Bass Field. Illinois State University committed nearly $3.5 million dollars to the project, which included a gated baseball complex, restrooms, concessions, pro-style dugouts, and a state-of-the-art press box. New additions to Duffy Bass Field in 2010 were a brand-new scoreboard beyond the right field wall and a bullpen/batting cage down the left field line. Finally, The Bass received a brand-new artificial playing surface (on the infield) in the spring of 2013 to help us deal with Midwestern weather. In conjunction with the resurfacing, the outfield grass was re-sodded in October of 2013. Coupled with the scenic view of campus and a top-notch playing surface, there is no doubt that Duffy Bass Field is one of the top on-campus baseball facilities in the entire Midwest. Redbird Baseball Clubhouse The Redbird Baseball locker room also recently underwent a major facelift. The renovation included new flooring, refinished wood lockers, and the creation of a new sitting area, which includes leather couches and a 60 plasma television. Owen Strength and Conditioning Center Quality strength and conditioning programs are vital components necessary for consistent success in college athletics, and the Redbird Strength and Conditioning Program is dedicated to developing every individual to achieve maximum results. Illinois State student-athletes train in the state-of-the-art, 9,200-square foot Richard & Fran Owen Strength and Conditioning Center. Opened in 2005, the facility is five times larger than the previous weight room and is the largest in the Missouri Valley Conference. Our student-athletes also enjoy the benefit of a nutrition bar. Our staff blends up nutrition shakes for our athletes specific to their nutrition needs. Karin L. Bone Athletic Study Center Illinois State's Athletic Study Center is a model other universities have tried to copy. Redbird student-athletes continually rank above the national average for graduation rates among student-athletes and generally graduate at a higher level than non-athletes at ISU. With specific programs aimed at the unique needs of the student-athlete and an extremely dedicated staff, Illinois State provides on of the most comprehensive academic assistance units in the country. Provides some good insight into how the yearly MAC football program deficit ballooned to eight figures.
"Hey look! Miami, Kent and OU got a super shiny new __________, so we'd better get one quick or we will lose recruits to them!!"

I have a feeling next decade is gonna be our decade. Feelings are all you need, RC, so we should be all good. As long as you got a good feeling, it should all come to fruition in short order. As you know, we were Ken Pom projected MAC tourney runner-ups this year. Hang that banner!

For the record, I do look forward to seeing Windham and Jones in the Cardinal & White. Both are MAC-level players. The question remains can they and whomever else we give the last two scholarships to lead us to a title? Are they better than Taj or Ish because I don’t think we have a player over 6-8 on our roster who replaces Teague and Ish was far and away our best guard.
