When is the pandemic considered to be over? Endemic means a manageable level with stable predictable levels of serious disease. We're not there yet. A lot of uncertainty on top of many regions where crisis exists. Delta upset our applecart when it looked like we were almost there. Other variants are creating uncertainty. That's why I posted the story about Britain above. Worldwide we're not close in many areas.

This week the Italian Higher Institute of Health drastically reduced the country's official Covid-19 death number by over 97% after changing the definition of a fatality to someone who died from Covid-19 rather than with Covid-19.
Of the 130,468 deaths registered as official Covid-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic, only 3,783 are directly attributable to the virus alone. All the other Italians who lost their lives had from between one and five pre-existing diseases.
I don't see any reason to suspect the US population is any healthier than the Italian population. In fact, I would guess it's the opposite and the US has more maladies such as a higher rates of diabetes and heart disease.
If you applied the same 97% to the 743,715 Americans who have died from Covid-19 over the past 20 months, that would mean those that died of Covid-19 instead of with Covid-19 would be 22,311, or an annual rate of 13,387 deaths per year.
To put this in perspective, in 2020 in the US 93,331 Americans died from drug overdoses. With Joe Biden's open southern border facilitating the flow of drugs into the county, this number will undoubtedly increase in 2021. Even using the 2020 figure of 93,331, drug overdose deaths in the United States would be approximately 7x the rate of deaths due to Covid-19.
Why does the Joe Biden Administration facilitate the free flow of drugs into our country with an open southern border policy? Why does he feed this crisis by allowing drug cartels free access to ship their drugs into our nation while the border patrol is preoccupied with managing future welfare recipients?

All the other Italians who lost their lives had from between one and five pre-existing diseases. If what you say is true that is a ridiculous action by the Italians which creates all kind of false inferences about the seriousness of the virus impact. It is contrary to ordinary practice with infectious disease like this. If you have a pre-existing condition and Covid hits you harder as a result that means that but for Covid you would be living. If you were on your deathbed any way and contracted Covid it would make sense, but that is just not what the numbers suggest.
Use an "excess death measure and you see that in the Covid pandemic deaths far exceeded what would normally be expected. Use "excess deaths" if you want as a measure, not the ridiculous "sole cause" criterion.
Addressing drug use is just fine with me, but that is an endemic problem long existing, much more similar to a host of public health problems. It is not a crisis that we could have fought to a standstill and did not, Not one we could fight right now with vaccination and masks. Note that drug use is not a problem where conservatives oppose mandates and other measures to fight the problem. Note that Covid is not something anyone wants.
When people are seeking out Covid for recreation and are addicted to it, when importing Covid and spreading it is a profitable criminal enterprise, and where both have been a problem for hundreds of years, come back and maybe whatever your point is will be relevant.

Oo what did you think of mask policy at the basketball game? We took masks but after entry we took ours off when we got to our seats. We were without neighbors for several rows and had our older neighbors been there we would have worn masks if they were. No one was enforcing the masks though is that the norm on campus

It's a big space. Good ventilation. Small crowd. Older crowd likely vaccinated.
We had people tight around us, a lively crowd, cheering, we wore our masks as most did around us. Except when drinking beer, eating popcorn...

The point is: the death toll from Covid-19 has been inflated from the get-go and the Italians are the first to admit it. Here's a challenge for you: find me a government statistic (CDC, FDA, whatever) of how many Americans died in 2020-21 of any malady (heart disease, stroke, diabetes, etc.) and were recorded as such, but also tested positive for Covid-19. The answer if you can find it will be damn near zero, if not zero. Anyone who tested positive of Covid-19 at or before death were put down as a Covid-19 death.

The second part of my post is more a rant on the bipolar nature of the Biden Administration. He makes this great appearance of wanting to protect the American people by getting them vaccinated. Good, although I don't agree they need it if they have already gained natural immunity from having beaten Covid-19. But then he totally ignores the health of the American people with a open southern border that is endangering this country in 3 ways: 1) Letting in Covid-19 infected people who are then dispersed throughout the USA to infect others. 2) Allowing drug cartels to more easily move drugs into the country, not to mention make millions from smuggling illegals into the country. It's like Joe is aiding and abetting the drug cartels. 3) Many of the illegals allowed in are actually dangerous criminals. Take for example the recent killing in Florida: nypost.com/2021/11/04/illegal-immigrant-who-posed-as-teen-arraigned-in-florida-murder/This lovely guy passed himself off as teenager (he was actually 24) at the border and then was flown at tax payer expense to Florida on one of the flights being run by the Biden Administration to disperse illegals throughout the country. He then proceeded to kill a 46-year old Florida man with a knife and chair. I sure hope the Florida guy was Covid-19 vaccinated (good Biden) before he was killed by the illegal allowed into the country by Biden (bad Biden). The guy also had 4 kids. Maybe Joe should explain to them why he let-in an illegal to kill their father.

Study Reveals 'Dramatic' Decline In All Three COVID-19 Vaccines' Efficacy Over Time A study which analyzed the records of nearly 800,000 US veterans of all ages found that the three main Covid-19 vaccines experienced 'dramatic' drops in efficacy over six months, according to the LA Times. www.latimes.com/science/story/2021-11-04/study-shows-dramatic-decline-in-effectiveness-of-covid-19-vaccinesBetween early March and September, as the Delta variant rapidly became the dominant strain worldwide, the ability of Moderna's two-dose vaccine to prevent infections dropped from 89% - 58%, Pfizer's went from 87% - 45%, and J&J's single-dose vaccine went from 86% to just 13%. Better get used to perpetual boosters every 6 months. They really should be working on boosters upgraded to whatever variants are developing instead of just the original Alpha variant. Better wake-up Joe.

Probably annually.
Joe got boosters out.
If Trump were there, he'd be saying "Don't worry, it'll all be over soon. Fake news"
His vaccine couldn't work without his supporters using it. Poor sales job on his part.
He could have been a hero. Beat the virus.

Yeah, Joe's really been a dynamo.
When he's awake. But only in the mornings, before his Sundowner's syndrome kicks in.

But those that died with Covid and pre-existing conditions were living with those pre-existing conditions. They died when Covid was introduced.

But those that died with Covid and pre-existing conditions were living with those pre-existing conditions. They died when Covid was introduced. You are making an assumption that they would have continued to live with those conditions. Like no one ever dies of pre-exiting conditions. Conversely, most of those who got Covid-19 without pre-existing conditions are still alive today.

They were living until they contracted Covid. It's the same reason the regular flu kills thousands of people each year. Those that are already immunocompromised can't handle the addition of covid, the flu, etc and they die.
