Too much long distance travel. Were Butler, IUPUI, Fort Wayne and Kokomo not available?

It's been sort of nice to have not given a thought to BSU basketball in recent months.

Why didn’t we just go ahead and schedule Eastern I’ll, Northwestern and DePaul while we were at it so we could every team in Illinois!🙄

CBS sports today ran an article on the upcoming college basketball season. www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/the-biggest-question-facing-college-basketball-heading-into-september-will-nonconference-games-be-doable/From the article: "Only 17 of Division I's 357 programs have released a schedule. Charles Pipkins, who runs the D1 Docket website and Twitter account and diligently tracks the scheduling world of college hoops, told CBS Sports that in a normal year we'd be at or above 175 officially released schedules by now. This dawdling reveals what's been assumed for months in college basketball circles: no one expects the season to start on time. For some this has been a blessing. "Nonconference scheduling has been easier this year than ever before because there's the belief it's not going to stay in its current form," one mid-major coach told CBS Sports." So maybe Butler can "throw us a bone" by scheduling us thinking they really will not have to actually play us due to the season being cancelled by Covid-19?

Why would Butler be scared to play us.. They passed us up years ago I wasn't really thinking in terms of Butler being scared to play BSU. I was thinking more in terms of how the leading programs in a state are often expected to offer a game to the "weaker sisters" of the state to help that weaker program get some exposure. There's nothing to really gain for the superior program. If they win in a blow-out, it's expected. If the game is close, or God forbid they lose, it's a disaster. I think that was basically what the quote from the unnamed Mid-major coach in the article I quoted was all about. High level programs signing deals with Mid-majors that really didn't help them, but not worrying too much because the game wasn't really going to get played. Kind of like saying you are going to donate a large sum to charity, but then never having to write the check.
