So Rob, how do you feel about that since you're a parent in that district? I assume this has been discussed in the community. How do other parents feel?

Delta and its donors are sports crazy. So for the most part I think people are excited but the people I know are sports people. I'm sure there are people who are wondering why not spend some on academics or salaries. My kids are young and the PTA has been trying to raise money for a new playground for 5 years. My friend is a principal at Central but his kids go to Delta. He had said with open enrollment every good athlete is going to flock to Delta. Rumor also has it that a group of donors have the money raised to build a multi million dollar football complex that will have a stadium feel to it. Seems excessive and silly to me but it will benefit my kids

I hear stories of high schools recruiting kids and it makes me sad. The love of money (or expensive ''things'') is the root of all evil. Does using non local recruited kids to win championships REALLY ring true? In my book it does not. I am losing interest in school team sports, both high school and college. Money is ruining the very core of what these activities are about... Fair play, following rules, learning to make sacrifices for your team,etc...you all know the drill. I admire the building of a great fitness center but I am learning to hate what it might be used for.

Delta losing Spegal to New pal made the donors say never again. If they lose a kid i will not be because of facilities. Oddly enough the spegal parents never sold the Delta home and are now back living in Muncie

I know people who say that spiteful nutjobs have been able to take over the political discourse in this country, and have a hugely inflated ability to control our lives, because normal, sensible, productive, law-abiding people put so much of their energy and money into HS and college sports....which is strictly a zero-sum situation. Whether this school or that school ends up winning a championship has zero short term or long term net effect on the well-being or direction of the country as a whole.
I think these people have a good point.

So note that this sentiment is shared by two guys that have a combined 16K posts on an obscure college sports message board.
