I think the season is in more jeopardy from various state and local governments than the ncaa. California, Texas, and Florida being hotspot states could cause real problems.

A further thought on this, once you are outside the NCAA do your coaches have to worry anymore about those nagging recruiting rules? Can a shoe company send a $100,000+ payment to steer a key basketball recruit to your program without fear of the NCAA penalizing you? Assuming your new Power 5 conference has their own set of rules that are a bit more "flexible".

Shoe companies are already sending large payments to the families of key recruits to steer them to allied programs. The NCAA ignores this because they would rather that these kids be encouraged bring their marketing power to college for at least a year
If this was allowed to happen openly that would be a needed boost to the integrity of the NCAA.

The NCAA and Nike are so closely intertwined and have such common interests as to be, in effect, the same organization in a lot of ways. The NCAA goes to heroic lengths to avoid noticing nike's money flow towards select hs athletes

Here's the follow-up article on subject from CBS sports: www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/power-five-ncaa-are-now-officially-adversaries-and-a-breakaway-may-only-be-a-matter-of-time/Towards the end of the article there is a reference to the MAC: "Those shortened schedules reduce travel during the pandemic but have also consolidated power. In eliminating several Group of Five opponents, the Power Five has denied those schools millions in game contracts. The MAC alone had 13 games against Big Ten opponents canceled. The losses in game guarantees from those Big Ten schools totaled more than $17 million. That added to a gap between the Power Five and Group of Five (American, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West, Sun Belt) that has never been wider. And it's more obvious than ever." "

Clemson is testing all employees too. So far 40 have tested positive. I know not all will be symptomatic and many will be just fine. But who will they spread it to, times x? They are starting with virtual classes because of the virus. They’ve also had a high number of players test positive over the summer. No one knows what will happen to players, coaches, referees, administrators, fans, etc once games are played.
I hope to god we have games. I really do. I love college football. But not sure how prudent getting all those kids breathing and slobbering all over each other for 60 minutes at a time is going to be. And if schools have to go with no fans, no concessions, etc. then what’s the point of it?

Just play football. It’s time to stop house arrest! The world must go on! Wishing it was all AOK will not make that true. The price of pretending it is high. I pray it will be ok, but understand that it is with us. Also understand that people like me(70+ with some preexisting conditions are at higher risk), but younger people and those without pre-existing conditions may show no or mild cold like conditions. I wish everyone a long life, but we can not bunker down forever as some would like. Already there are some businesses that will never open again, destroying the life’s of those who used to work there. We need to be somewhat cautious, we we can not continue hiding in fear.

Forever is too long. That wasn't needed but more "house arrest" than we had was needed. We screwed this up.
Hardly any part of the world is doing worse.
By reopening too quickly a little and too carelessly a lot, that impatience needs to be paid for now. I'm betting we start this season, and that we edend up shutting it down regretting it.
