Hopefully they can play in the spring. This team has a lot of potential. You would hate to lose the chance to win the MAC.

I think it’s the right decision. I hate it but I think you are going to see most pushed to spring or wish they had

So that's probably Huntley and Justin Hall. Not sure who else. Although, what if some of the P5 conferences start pushing to Spring? Maybe the NFL draft gets pushed back a couple months and all of those guy do wind up playing so they can showcase their talents. So many unknowns...

It seems that the decision was based less on the virus (though still a major factor) and more on the fact that some teams can't afford to play.

My nephew plays in the Big Ten. Several guys on the team tested positive, but had very minor symptoms. Seems like it is probably more about the money at this point

It's not so much about playing in the spring, it's whether they will transfer out to get a chance to play this fall. From a CBS Sports article: "Now, the MAC faces a new concern -- losing its best players. There is growing worry across the league that, should the Power Five and other conferences go on with fall seasons, some of the league's top players could transfer particularly as other players across the country are opting out of the season altogether." There is probably some rule about them getting instant eligibility if they their current school doesn't offer the sport anymore. In addition, there is no guarantee the MAC will play football in either the spring or the fall of 2021.

It seems to me that the whole moving-to-the-spring thing is just a case of putting off a decision they don't quite have the balls to make now. Do they think they won't have to do testing, and crowd restrictions etc in the spring? Based on what? Uprooting from the fall would just lead to a strange, off-balance, surreal season anyway. Ain't happening.
I do give some credit to the MAC that they have, for once, recognized that they exist in an entirely different financial universe from the P5 programs.

Or both.

Kinda hate to agree with you sherm, but I don't see how moving the season to spring benefits the MAC, financially, at all. We've already lost the two money games, so we don't get those back and I don't see that the expenses are any less in the spring.

I think spring football would end up a waste and a big money loser

The only hope with the spring is everyone, Power 5 included, moves to the spring and the 2 Big Ten games come back into play. CBS sports wrote a lengthy article recently why that wasn't going to happen; the main drivers being the NFL and Power 5 teams getting ready to play again in the fall of 2021. I think a bigger concern right now is: will the fall of 2021 even be doable? Fauci made a speech at Brown University on Friday where he said a vaccine might only by 50 to 60% effective. www.zerohedge.com/political/fauci-says-coronavirus-vaccine-may-only-be-50-or-60-effectiveIf that's the case, the situation in the fall 2021 will not be much different from today for 2020. If MAC players tend to think they will not only being losing 2020, but 2021 too, the exodus will be huge. Also kiss goodbye any high school player currently committed.

People need to look at a calendar realistically when they refer to the "Spring" when considering the locations of Buffalo, Central Michigan, etc. Consider hypothetically: 1. a four-week training camp period beginning the week of Feb 22nd ending March 20th - even starting that late, still very few decent outdoor days for schools up north 2. Week 1 games March 27th (which would coincide with one of the heaviest basketball weekends of the tourney season...of course if basketball is played) 3. By Week 6, schools like BSU are academically entering Finals Week - meaning end-of-semester eligibility issues, and 2nd half of the season is conducted after students/band/cheerleaders are gone from campus 4. If the season is 12 weeks to play 10 games as other conferences have predicated, the regular season would thus end June 12th - not to mention any Conference Championship or Bowl-type games which could then go to the end of June. Then remembering the 2021 Fall Camp and Game Season would begin again 5 and 9 weeks later, respectively.
The only two ways I see "Spring" football being proposed are... a) 7 or 8 game max season starting end of March through mid-May, or b) what the southern schools would prefer, similar to their Baseball calendar, where training camps are mid-Jan to mid-Feb and the games start Presidents Day weekend and finish end of April (very unfavorable to northern schools). Neither choice would be any financial boom to Ball State or the MAC schools where attendance would expect to be significantly more dreadful than current and tv slots would be sparse to even get what we're getting now in media money.
