Why do you think Lancing would do any better at BSU than they did at ISU? Better support, weaker conference if he were to coach in the Mac. Isu did not do much for him. 250k a year? They’ve put their eggs in the football basket. I know it’s not sexy but I see lots of people who are very upset with this move by ISU. He’s very highly respected. He’s got a winning record, he went to an ncaa tourney and whit hasn’t come close, and 2 NIT’s to whits none. He got some kids to ISU I wish we’d had over the years. I honestly think he’d do well in a situation like BSU. Certainly better than Whitford has. But none of that matters because we’ll keep whit, possibly even extend him and use the Covid year reasoning in doing it.

Look Ball State could easily pay off Whitford by burrowing the money if they had to. It's less than $400,000. He is gone.

Preston Spradlin. Resume isn't terribly impressive and no idea if he can recruit, but won the OVC this year over Belmont.

However I would have to say no because 00hmh swears you can't hire a good coach in BSU's salary range, so this guy must really really suck.

Coach of the year this year, though. But. Isn't the question what his current market is, not his last salary? And how much payout we have on his contract through 2023. My position is if you want a top program you pay good salary to staff and HC. If we want to join the OVC maybe we could find a coach for that money. Might be 69-76 for 4 years, though.

A buyout requires outside funding, as would any buyout for an incoming coach with a contract. There is no budget for either absent that.

Suffer through four years of sub-.500 basketball before winning a conference title and earning an NCAA Tournament bid ... or suffer through eight years of sub-.500 basketball without a conference title or an NCAA Tournament bid? Tough decisions.
