So that should mean they don't have to take student's money to subsidize athletics for 2 years right? After all, roughly 15MM of the athletic budget comes from student fees annually, so surely this 30MM in exposure should lessen the burden on students?

I find these numbers to largely be worthless. They need to explain the "calculations" behind them. To me they are nothing more than grandstanding and justifying the expense (which is around $15mm per year, BTW - not to mention the cost on Title IX and impact on others sports). Typical higher ed nonsense.
Also, what about the 30 or so years we went without a championship?

Assuming we got value, unfortunately it is in the nature of "good will" on some balance sheet that can't be liquidated to pay the bills.
We are strapped in the next budget every year, and you astutely point out that the operating losses mount for years and the net present value of any future gain is highly speculative at best.

Ahhhh. It's February. We're all social distancing. We're snowed in.
I just had to post some fodder to get folks pontificating on the value of DI-FBS football at BSU.
