Aren't you the one who constantly tells us average is the only bar we should ever be expected to clear ? Hardly. I am clearly on the optimistic end of the spectrum on the forum. You are delusional.

PG Bum-Suokes 2. Cochran-Sellers-Jacobs 3. Pearson-Jones-Acree 4. Thomas-Jihad 5. Sparks-Huggins-Hennriks
I have slightly revised my depth chart but it looks like lots of competition at the #2 & #3 spots. Also, with Boogey's departure I do not see Suokes playing in front of Bum who I have moved to PG with Suokes getting lots of minutes.

You think a freshman center who played at Winchester is gonna start?

You think a freshman center who played at Winchester is gonna start? If a true center, all of them together play 20 minutes, I'll be surprised.

Cardfan, I get it cause it will be a tall order but him or Huggie??!!
Who else? Unless we play all forwards and guards which very well could be.

I have no clue whether he will be ready to at some point to contribute this year. I'd think the red shirt decision depends a lot on what Hendricks and Huggy can do. We will need some minutes from a real Center. Sparks could be the best we have, or the others may have improved and able to provide what we need.
Huggy is the best bet, he has improved each year.

I saw sparks play vs Delta.. He had a nice first half.. Good moves around the basket and even hit a three.. 2nd half Delta switched and put Hunt on him and he had 2 points the rest of the game. I think he can be pretty good but he needs a redshirt year. If Hunt can shut him down physically as a high school senior the grown men of the mac are going to abuse him

Still wish and think Hunt would have helped us more on the Basketball side than he will on the football side

If Hunt can shut him down physically as a high school senior the grown men of the mac are going to abuse him I agree he needs time to develop, maybe not a red shirt year. Surely Sparks needs to get used to seeing opposing big guys playing very physical, and more than that get used to the overall speed of the game. On D he will have a lot to learn, and can't just rely on his wingspan.
Hunt is a pretty rugged kid, and it's hard to draw conclusions in a HS game where big guys often have to move gingerly around the paint to avoid being called for fouls and where he's guarding somebody who is a mismatch most games. Even on offense, a quicker smaller defender has some advantage, offsetting size, in harassing the bigger players and somehow seems to get more calls when they seize position and block out.
In college the refs expect some pushing and shoving and the big guys can play harder.

Hunt is a couple inches shorter but much stronger and more athletic than sparks at this time. Im not sure how refs allowing more pushing and shoving benefits sparks in any way. Thats exactly why he is going to struggle if a 6-9 PF/Center weighing 250 bumps sparks he is likely headed to the first row of spectators

Thats exactly why he is going to struggle if a 6-9 PF/Center weighing 250 bumps sparks he is likely headed to the first row of spectators Yeah, hard for him to be used to that level of physicality. It's what happens to these small school kids who are used to playing lesser competition.
Probably that competition level really hurts and also no weight program, not much incentive to get into real physical training. He is maybe a little taller and bigger than the typical small school strong man, has some AAU. Hope he is working in our weight room like a FB player! He improves his body, gets more confidence as he gets more muscle. That should get him playing stronger, how soon the question.
Even if he doesn't have a real mean streak under that exterior he has bulk and can gain muscle and not get pushed around. Moses is the interesting parallel. He really worked that summer before college, lost baby fat and gained some muscle, never was fast twitch tough, but was able to hold his own. Physically that is the parallel. Skill wise, I have no idea Sparks potential. Good news if he can shoot a little and has decent hands.

Im not sure how refs allowing more pushing and shoving benefits sparks in any way. Only against smaller guys, that's true. But in college he'd be able to bull over Hunt and have more contact.

Maybe I'm hungover and just confused by what your saying.. Unless alot has changed in 6 months there is no way sparks can physically bull over Hunt and or especially a real a mac big guy. If he matures maybe he can do that in a couple years.
