Could you please advise us on how to maneuver one's coach onto the hot seat? We have a coach that's won exactly two conference tourney games in 8 years but yet appears to be about to get an extension.
If you look through the relevant threads here, you may notice a distinct lack of angst over Ish not returning. This should tell you something, although he's not bad and may well be somewhat useful to your team.
Sherm I literally lol’d at your comment. Thank you for making my Friday great! I had the exact same reaction LOL.

I agree with most posts on this thread. Ish is going to be a guy that can score some points and provide a little bit of a lift and depth to your pool of guards. he is going to be much more valuable than any freshman you would theoretically use that last scholarship for but he probably isn't the savior that you need to get over the hump. I hope for your sake studs I am wrong.
Did Russell transfer or is he the one you said is coming back?
Ish entered the portal last year and then I think came back because there wasn't enough interest to draw him away. That kind of rubbed me the wrong way. He is a very selfish player in my opinion but like someone else on here said, I am more critical of Ish than most people on this board. What also really rubbed me the wrong way was when he announced his intentions of transferring this most recent time, he posted it on twitter about 3 hours after we lost to #1 seed Toledo in OT in the MAC tourney. that was the last straw for me with Ish. I say good riddance but i do hope he helps you. A family member of mine used to live in RI for a while so I have always pulled for the Rams when I can. you guys have a great facility there in the Ryan center. cool little arena.

Wow, ya posting it hours after a game is not a good look at all.. Fatts Russell transferred but similar to Ish for you guys, most of our fanbase is happy to see him go. He's had some great moments, especially in his junior year, but he was really, really tough to watch last season. He shot 23% from 3 and 39% from the field. He's a super-fast guard that can finish and sometimes create, but his shot has always prevented him from being elite... Our other Senior guard Jeremy Sheppard was our best player and he decided to come back. Thanks! I wish your program nothing but the best as well.

This feels kind of like selling a used car you know has some flaws. Find a way to fix the flaws and you might have something. Good luck.
Biggest flaw in my opinion. He is soft and underdeveloped. He wilts/disappears in big moments.

Sounds familiar. I can see why he was attracted to Ish now. Does he typically take a lot of transfers? As RC said, that's why he was attracted to RI, but that's not really what he needs. Man, college basketball is a cesspool right now. We had a fantastic coach in Dan Hurley. We made back-to-back NCAA tournaments, but then UConn stole him. Really they stole him ? I quit reading the rest of your post after that stupid comment.

Three years later, and most of that recruiting class has transferred and we haven't landed a bid since... We have lost a lot of transfers and have brought in a lot as well... Some successful and some complete busts.. This season, we desperately needed a guard that could make an immediate impact with our final scholarship, and the hope is Ish can be that player.. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who we bring in if the coaching continues to be at best mediocre... Wow... Hot seat after 3 years? Where can we sign up for somma that action? BSU generally gives a coach a full decade to settle in... break in the office chair... decide their favorite lunch spots... find the closet where the basketballs were hidden from Ronny. Don't want to rush anyrhing...

You can also count on Ish to create some marches, rallies and generally do some virtue signalling on your campus and the closest town. Then he will start kneeling during anthems and make a massive change in our society as a result. Of course he will tweet about it for good measure.

We would love Ish back. He'd be among top guards in the MAC.
His community action was totally a credit to him and BSU.
He improved over his time here. A good team mate. The debate about his future is whether he has upside. And how much. Limited since not an amazing athlete, good. Not great size. Good skills.
Sometimes expected to do too much, could be taken out of the game by a very good defender. A very good college player. Not dominant, limited pro potential.

Don't want to rush anyrhing... That must be very frustrating for your fanbase. We had a coach named Jim Baron from 2001-2011 who had zero NCAA tournament appearances and a couple of epic collapses with teams that 100% should have received a bid. Our AD will never make a mistake again of keeping a coach longer than he should... We hired our current coach David Cox with no head coaching experience. He's always been a fantastic assistant. We basically lead the country in transfers after Cox's second year, which looked really bad. Last season, he talked about scouting a player that was out 3 days before one of our games which made him look completely unprepared. Our media brought up how he handled his rotations multiple times, and his answers on why were terrible. I feel bad because he's a really good person and mentor to our guys, but he's not a good head coach. We shall see.

His community action was totally a credit to him and BSU. His community action was almost totally about him and not BSU. There I fixed it for you.

His community action was totally a credit to him and BSU. His community action was almost totally about him and not BSU. It was a credit to BSU. It was about his genuine concerns, yes, but they were shared by many and his action gave everyone a chance to express themselves.
The students, the President, many faculty and others in the community appreciated it, participated in it. It was good civic leadership on his part, and as a prominent athlete the praise he got for the action was something where the University benefited from his association with BSU.
The image of young men who are athletes involved in unlawful behavior has from time to time hurt BSU because of their association, this was 180 degrees the opposite.

It certainly portrayed BSU as falling in line with the dominant establishment narrative of the moment. I guess that's a help to the school in certain ways.

It's funny how kids now "protest" to demonstrate their fealty to the establishment.
Used to be different.

I think all of these assessments are pretty harsh, if you ask me. I'm not a fan of his attitude or politics, but as a player he's a 2nd team All Conf. guy in a league filled with really good guards. He is a good driver, especially on the baseline, better three point shooter than his stats show, 90% free throw, led team in steals and had more assists that turnovers and pretty clutch in my opinion. And, he has improved significantly since his freshman year. He can and needs to be more focused on the defensive end which could improve under a more demanding coach. How can one be a better 3 point shooter than his stats show?
