The obvious lack of stiff competition for PT is a potential draw for transfers. So there's that. I agree Sherm. The MAC is conference which might give a good player the chance to stand out, and there are a lot of players on high majors who think that is all they need, a chance to play.
This transfer dynamic is a little crazy, even these Final Four teams all had transfers from other big programs who had some reason to be disappointed with there original choice. It's going to be hard to find better chances for some disgruntled talents, with the very best transfer cases going to the other big boys in lateral moves.
There must be more even than that PT, though, since prevailing opinion here is that BSU has such great potential to dominate the MAC with it's facilities and potential packed arena if only we had those good player recruits.
But even though I don't quite buy that, I do think facilities are good and competition is enough to attract talent. JUCO and the transfer portal sure have a lot of players who need a show case. We may not replace Ish or Coleman, but snagging a couple of MAC level players is possible.

I have a good friend who is a die hard Creighton fan. He told me Windham would, at most, give us 5 minutes a game. What was the scoop on his play? We saw him play some this year. Liked to shoot was my only real impression, did not fit well with what we were doing. 5 minutes seems pessimistic, but he sure wasn't looking like a potential starter either. How's it pessimistic? He's saying he will not be an impact player for us or in the MAC. He's seen him play and he's close to the Creighton program.

We've seen him play, too, but not much, so I wondered if he had any specific analysis or report. I don't know much about his time at Creighton. And I don't think any here have seen him in practice, to have a real scouting report.
5 minutes seems pessimistic since you'd expect most players who play at all to be able to play more than that, especially as they mature physically.

I would be quite surprised if there is not an opening game starter (or two or three) that is not currently on the roster. It's just too easy these days to find a transfer that's an upgrade over some of the projected starters.
Also this whole transfer explosion is a boon for Whitford….his recruiting distaste and laziness is not nearly such a disadvantage. Unlike with HS recruits, you don't have to spend most of your summer building relationships and "showing love" with endless communications and attending a multitude of summer tournaments. (Not that Whitford was doing this, but many of his competitors were). The transfer recruiting process happens very quickly....relatively speaking. This levels the playing field quite a bit between Whitford and the more energetic MAC recruiters
Also previously established relationships seem to come into play much less often than you would think when pursuing transfers. Maybe because transfers are so commonly moving up or down in program pecking order...so that you are not necessarily looking at kids who were in your natural recruiting range when they were in HS? I'm speculating here.

Sparks will need to redshirt if at all possible. That is likely true. Although the red shirt thing is another thing changed by transfer rules. If it works the way you want, the kid has an easy time in transferring instead of playing a 5th year for us. Not as much gain as it was.
The only thing to think about is what happened with Trey Moses. He was similar player in some ways in HS. Worked his ass off, literally, the summer before college.
Sparks lives close by will have access to our facilities, and unlike Huggie, he probably has more skills to start with. Optimistically, he might play as the season progresses.
But it's a big leap to starting or playing major minutes for any freshman.

I’m most concerned with him being ready to handle the physicality of the game at this level.

I’m most concerned with him being ready to handle the physicality of the game at this level. Especially with the level of competition he faced in HS.
