FB decisions far more important, along with administrative success. How is the Men's Basketball Coach on a one year contract not an administrative problem ? It may or may not be all her fault but's its a major issue that obviously hasn't been adequately dealt with. If Goetz gets out of here without extending Whitford, we should consider that a big favor and an example of making the best out of a difficult situation. An underperforming, mediocre coach hanging around with a lame duck year next year would seem to be Sandy's fault, rather than Goetz's. It was very clear to me at the time that Sandy's Whitford extension was a catastrophic blunder....and so it has turned out.
Goetz's choices are 1) buy Whitford out and get rid of him 2) endure a lame duck year 3) extend him, kick the can down the road and doom the program to X more years of mediocrity/failure. Of course I would PREFER 1, but don't have any suggestions as to where to get the money. So that leaves 2 as a much better choice than 3.

Whitford knows Beth isn't a fan of his, but I'd be very nervous if I were him with a new AD coming in.

I agree there is no way you can give Whitford an extension. However, I don't think he has been treated in a professional manner during this process.

Maybe he has maybe he was told months ago he is a lame duck That's a good point, he may have been less than honest in his interview with the Star Press.

We are all talking ourselves out of what most have agreed will likely happen. I think he gets another year extension. I don't want that but it's probably going to happen. How would any of our recent portal transfers come here if the pitch was, "I'm under contract until April next year and after that who knows."

Well then what rational pitch do you think our recent portal transfers DID respond to? I can't imagine any pitch Whitford could make that would stand up to sensible scrutiny. I think either these kids chose BSU for some reason(s) OTHER THAN the prospect of being coached by Whitford for multiple years, or else their decisions were based on rash and uninformed thinking....in either case they would not have been deterred by Whitford's unsettled contract situation.
But I agree with your larger point. I think I myself may be trying to convince myself there is hope Whiford won't be extended....even though the most likely thing is still that he will be.

I don't know, my thought is if they had any interest in extending him, they would have been professional enough to do it before two assistant coaches left. Kids transfer for a lot of different reasons, I chose Ball State because I was looking for a larger campus and a change of scenery, I didn't really care who the coach was.

He'll get the extension. Players don't pick his program to win, they pick it because they know they can play "freely" in his system after having chaffed at being too structured elsewhere, or, they flat just didn't get to play much and there's playing time aplenty with the Whitford Plan.

This yr's transfers are in a totally different situation than anyone else has been in. Lots of these guys are not getting much interest if they get a chance to play they will come & they may only be here for a year. I don't think Whitford being gone in a yr scares the transfers.

Tweets out there saying Wisconsin AD is going to be the guy Alvarez has been mentoring.. Yeah I’d have been pretty surprised if they didn’t go with his handpicked guy. Can’t go against Alvarez.

Ok, what happened to some posts? I deleted them because I accidentally copy and pasted something I used on another forum that was not related to Goetz or bsu. So the following posts were only going to cause confusion
