I thought we had a similar article last year about the "qualities" of Hendricks and how he might be a force. I agree with OOhmh in that I think it puts a little extra unneeded pressure on the kid.

If Hendricks doesn't want to work in the off season, why is he still on the team ? who would we replace him with I see the potential, I have seen him look good on offense. The problem was he simply could not play very many minutes especially on D, too slight and lacking both stamina and any aggression when he was on the court to make up for lack of strength. He had been told to bulk up and just failed. Not only did that mean we did not play him, but it has to mean coaches had the talk with him about what is needed for him to ever play. This year he's got a lot more people to compete with and is just one more player we have to see in action before we can tell where he is and whether he can help. He could well be a year behind after a wasted year.
If there was no chance he could develop, it would be time to tell him he's gone. But as you say he probably is better than any alternative we could recruit at the last minute. If he isn't working his tail off in practice this year, or showing a lot more results, he is facing several hungry players with some size, he's not likely to be back next.

So do we know he is not working in the off season? All I can tell whit told me several times over the last two years he had no idea why Hendricks even stayed here. Zero work ethic, Never did tge off season stuff, never followed the diet etc.. Now that could have changed this season I don't know

I will say my earlier posts suggested Sparks might start as a Freshman could become reality but certainly Huggie will get minutes.
I’m not projecting but just hoping we could have a truly good season. We have some kids that can score the ball so it will be interesting to watch for sure.

Whatever else we can say, Huggy does work hard, play hard, and incrementally improves. Sparks and the big kid from Michigan, Pearson, Thomas along with Huggy all want to play. He has to compete.
Maybe if he found the 25 pounds Sparks lost? If not he has to play forward and play very hard to guard smaller guys or big guys. It does not look good for him.

We have some kids that can score the ball so it will be interesting to watch for sure. I still havent made up my mind but I am struggling with whether to boycott this season. The admin has put the ambitious fans (what remains at least) in a tough spot. I dont think Whitford is the man for the program. So I am now in a position where any success short of a championship berth is, I believe, bad for the program. So if I watch I am afraid I will find myself rooting against us. I hope this season is such an astounding failure that Beth will call a press conference to formally apologize for the extension and admit the complete failure of the athletic department to manage the program. However, as a diehard BSU fan I have no desire to root against us or hope we fail. So I think it is probably best for me to just sit this season out, but that also sucks because I love BSU sports.

Your not alone I think alot of us are thinking like you. I know when it became appearant that the only hope last year was a miracle run in Cleveland. Several of us were talking and all agreed it would be better if we just lost out. We thought that might be enough to start over. I'm going to go and watch and hope we do b well. If the wheels do fall of though I'm sure many will feel the same way.

We've got at least 2 more seasons of Whitford. Assuming that BSU would be willing to let him go with a year left on his contract.

Hard to understand why a scholarship athlete didn't focus coming into last year. But if there was some reason, we'd probably not be told anyway.
Teague was maybe more frustrating. Good enough to play anyway, but so much more potential unrealized for a couple of years at least.

Now hopefully a light bulb or pride kicks in and he salvages something

He's a 6'10" guy who probably doesn't really like basketball all that much. It's happens sometimes. It's also likely why the interest he was receiving as a HS Sophomore went away. Just another one of Jimmy's recruiting screwups.

Interesting convo... What makes a scholarship worth it. Lets use Huggins as the example. After its all said and done will his scholarship make the time and Money invested into him worth it?
