Happy to see Bonzi getting a chance to coach basketball collegiately.

I hope he does not bring any of his sons into the program as I think it would create problems for the team & his sons.

Will be interesting to follow. You can say this and say that about Bonzi, but if he is successful there, he automatically becomes an obvious candidate for BSU.

Hired as a role model preaching the value of education.
Original plan was to be Assistant. Expects a lot of help from his basketball family in Memphis.

Tried to find the Bonzi--Rasheed Wallace podcast mentioned but only found a teaser that didn't really show what it is actually about.

“The way the world is changing, it’s HBCUs’ time,” said Wells. “We’ve promoted these other colleges that are not HBCUs long enough. So now it’s time to get the revenue and all that stuff directed to the HBCUs. We need to get all the media attention.
“Like I told them in my interview process, I’ll use any type of celebrity I have to get attention to the HBCUs. From Deion Sanders and all the other guys, professional athletes that went to these schools, we’re going to use every ounce of our celebrity to make sure our schools are on the map and they are talking about us daily on the ESPNs, the FoxSports and all those things,” said Wells.
“We need to be in those type of conversations every week.”
I'm pretty sure it could be demonstrated that Lemoyne and other D2 HBCU's get pretty much the same "revenue and all that stuff" that most D2 basketball programs get....which is to say very little. (e.g. the Univ of Indianapolis) Maybe he's just saying what he thinks they want to hear at the introductory presser. Hopefully he doesn't really think that having a good, long, but not especially memorable, NBA career ten years ago gives him the star power to suddenly get his program ESPN air time. If he thinks this is the key to success, it will likely result in a fiasco. If he succeeds, it will be through the hard work of recruiting and getting his team to play hard and execute a coherent game plan, night in and night out.....which will result in wins, which will result in a reasonable, but not transformational, increase in media attention.

Bonzi played hard, he had immense talent. He did not practice hard and work very hard in the classroom.
In D2 he will have to get better results from his players who lack the talent he had. It will as you say be more based on their preparation and hard work. His pro career hopefully has taught him a lot in that department.
It will not be celebrity or ESPN footage that gets that done.

Bonnie ever coaching at a d1 level would be a disaster

Hard to see Bonzi as a leader of men unless he has done some serious maturing.

Hard to see Bonzi as a leader of men unless he has done some serious maturing. I don't know. I never thought I'd see Randy Moss speaking complete sentences on ESPN.
