I wouldn't hold your breath on Butler, not only did Ronny Thompson cancel the series, he insulted them when he did it. The Gora gift that keeps on giving. Hard to believe how much damage that guy did in such a short time.
Had we hired the right guy to replace Buckley we had a fighting chance to rebuild. At the least we would have had a change, upgraded a little, do some marketing based on that. Fans were eager then compared to now, demographics better. TC actually had a reasonable plan he presented at the time he was hired.
Gora and Roy saw Ronnie as a the bright young star with a name who would allow them to raise ticket prices. Everybody wanted that East coast basketball, right?
Too bad they didn’t bother asking anyone in the coaching profession about Thompson before they hired him. (And blew off brad Brownell to do it)

Whitford put this schedule together to save his ass, nothing more and nothing less! This is all about the win count. This schedule is a joke!!!

I think Gora fanaticized about attending East Coast cocktail parties and talking with other University hacks about having John Thompson's son as our coach. She thought it would help her get her dream job at a Patriot League or Ivy League School. Instead she was such a f-up as an administrator she will never work for another University again.

Thompson stated he wanted to play a more "nationally recognizable schedule". I understand Butler was still in the Horizon League at the time, but you don't say stuff like that, especially about an in-state rival.

The picture of Gora and Collins all stupid grins and googly-eyed, standing next to John Thompson at the introductory press conference tells you everything you need to know about that hire.
As poor as BSU has been at hiring BB coaches, that is a hire that will NEVER be surpassed as a colossal, self-inflicted fuck up.

She may no longer be working, but not because she is turning away offers.

The MAC message board still has confusion regarding the scheduling (i.e. East/West Divisions); the MAC website schedule announcement seems to clarify:
"The men's basketball regular season will conclude on Friday, March 4th with the top eight teams in the conference moving on to Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse for the MAC Men’s Basketball Tournament on March 10-12. MAC Men’s Quarterfinal games will be available on ESPN3 or ESPN+, while Semifinal action will air on CBS Sports Network. The Men’s Basketball Championship game will be televised live on Saturday, March 12th on ESPN2 (Time TBD)".
I take this to mean the upcoming 2021/22 season will not have East/West divisions; in other words, like last season.

If they ever reinstate the divisions for basketball, they should just go ahead and officially call them the "Strong Division" and the "Shit Division".

I haven't actually looked at the schedule. Dare I hope that we could relive the thrilling days of 2017 when we were in the running for the KenPom absolute worst Non-conference strength of schedule in the entire country? We were in the running until the last month of the season when Texas Tech locked up the coveted #351 dead f------ last spot and we had to settle for #350. So we know Whitford is capable of competing with the very best (worst) in the country when he feels pressed to produce some wins. 2017 kenpom NCSOSThat was one moment where Whitford's deadly dull-ass program was actually somewhat interesting. Surely that ranks up with having the best post-season excuse EVER in 2020, and, of course, being considered by Bane as the most thrilling highlights of Whitford's tenure.

Well, when your athletic department is broke, you're not bringing in Villanova, Kansas, Duke, or Kentucky.

Well, when your athletic department is broke, you're not bringing in Villanova, Kansas, Duke, or Kentucky. Definitely money is a factor. Less so decades ago. Even then we would never get a home game with any of the really big national powers outside the state, and that was far more likely 20 years ago. Best we have done in a long time is 2 for 1 deals and then not with real national draw power teams.
Best bet is to get into a tournament, we did that with the NIKE deal. But Maui and other big shows don't have many slots for MAC level teams.
We can get a game with IU or PU or maybe Butler if we go there. Maybe. If your HC or AD has a connection with another program that could open a door to get on a schedule. Steve Alford might conceivably schedule a homecoming game to the area? But he isn't at UCLA...
A good schedule for us is to get an occasional home game with Loyola, Xavier, and that level of school, but try to get home and home with regional rivals similar to MAC schools.

I think a few people should look at the field at Jersey Mike’s before disparaging it!!
UMass was like 7-4 in the Atlantic 10 last season in conference
Weber State was like 17-6 overall from the Big Sky
And, UNC Greensboro made the dance and played Florida State pretty tough in the first round.
I hope we play all 3 but playing at least 2 would be pretty good competition

Sure am looking towards that IUK match up. Without Longwood, Morehead State, or the Game Cocks from South Carolina, and with Beaver College changing their name a couple of years ago there is simply no reason to buy a season ticket.
