Sparks has been scoring the majority of his points from the block and has shown a few moves from a Center that we may have never seen at BSU from a Freshman

Good win. Did not let ISU come back on them in the second half like every team we have played, including a very bad Omaha team. This team is getting better. The freshman are good. Finally the transfers are paying off. I like Cochran, though he sometimes hot dogs when he should give up the ball - but I am glad we have him. We are not projected to beat Western Illinois! Sure would be nice to see us win this one. Feeling better today about the team than when the first game tipped off.

My main takeaway from today— we shitcanned a team we should have. That’s good. And it feels damn good to say that confidently today.

Isu is a d2 team this year by necessity. New coach had to take what he could get after the best players left. He’ll rebuild but he’s gonna need time.
Did they even attempt to guard?

I was surprised we were so dominant, but my goodness, ISU is bad news. They have zero post presence, they can't shoot, they're atrocious defensively, and they can't hit bunnies. It was good to see us keep the lead at 19+ throughout.

My main takeaway from today— we shitcanned a team we should have. That’s good. That whole "should" thing is interesting. They were a pick'em choice before the game.
ISU at 72 Sagarin, BSU at 68. Neutral court.
We beat them and I am not sure whether they are really bad and we are just not as bad as we were expected to be. Or, are we good?
Or was it just a good game against a team that had a bad game because neither team is established and consistent enough to tell what they are?

I know you can’t compare scores but for fun #3 Purdue beat ISU by 23! You can't compare scores...

Well, there is all of that. I’ll clarify— when it became apparent that today, November 27, 2021 that we could rout ISU, we did.

In fairness this game was a toss up! Let’s see how we play the next two particularly against Xavier on the road!
If we could somehow play Xavier well then we could possibly be competitive in the MAC

Am I looking at the wrong sagarin ratings? I See BSU at 233 and Isu at 161

Look it's no different than it's been since Whitford has been here. When we shoot well, we win the vast majority of the time. The issue there is we haven't shot well enough most of the time.
Against UMass and ISU we surpassed 50% for both FG% and 3PFG%.
Over the previous two seasons when we've shot 50% from the field we've won 100% of our games.
Over the previous two seasons when we've shot 40% from 3, we've won 78% of our games.
Over the previous two seasons our record is 28-26, which should tell you we haven't hit either of those percentages very often or our record would be a helluva lot better.
If we can hit 50% from the field the rest of the year, I think we're in good shape. I just don't have a lot of confidence we'll be able to do that.

I saw a BSU player box out on a rebound today. Whitford's teams don't do that. I saw some other examples of good fundamentals. I'm kind of shocked and confused, but happy.

I'm going to propose a simple formula for assessing BSU's chances to win against any opponent on the schedule: 68-.1K = P where K is the opponent's KenPom ranking and P is the percentage of 3pt shots BSU has to hit to win. So, for example ISU is #166, and we have 68-(.1*166) = 51.4. BSU will have to hit 51.4% threes to beat ISU. I think this method would not work well for opponents in the upper reaches of the rankings. For example BSU would have to hit a lot better than 67.9% to beat somebody like Gonzaga or Purdue. But this is moot because there are no teams like that on the schedule. But the formula tells you that BSU can beat the dogshit MAC West teams while hitting a percentage in their normal range in the high 30's, whereas they are going to have to hit upwards of 55% to be competitive with the MAC east teams or Toledo. So the good news is BSU can sometimes beat the better MAC teams depending on a factor with a lot of natural variability. The bad news is that the team has no chance to have the consistency necessary to be a championship contender due to having a flawed roster and a coach with only one real idea.
