How sad is that meals for a d1 basketball team need to be crowd funded? Think about it, a $500 goal for 14 full grown men that likely each consume about 4000 calories a day. The whole thing makes no sense at all.

You know this whole fundraiser just sums up whits entire time here. He knows he can't raise real money so he will set a very achievable goal of 500 dollars.. Look guys we hit our goal now we can have two Taco Bell Tacos after every game

This is just pathetic and embarrassing. This is where we are, begging for food like Oliver Fucking Twist?
Yet we'll still spend the money to go to a nothing bowl. IF we get an invite.
I am deeeee-pressed.

Certainly any schools in the GLIAC (great lakes intercollegiate athletic conference) would be very interested in Whitford. After all, he took GLIAC powerhouse Michigan Tech down to the wire, despite all the disadvantages BSU was under. Hey don't sleep on the GLIAC, Butler is in a tight game with Saginaw Valley at this very moment. SV is a pretty good D2 team, while Butler is just bad right now. Lavall Jordan's seat is warming up.

What it sums up is the desire to knock anything Whitford does. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the fundraiser. It's no big deal, and nobody thinks it is, intended it to be. Would you somehow think more of it if he set a different goal? It supports a University fund raising initiative that isn't Whitford's idea and the basketball team was no doubt like other university organizations and activities invited to participate. That idea seems to me to be a gimmick nothing particularly good about it but cannot see any negative. Women's team is participating, I don't see others. But no big deal either way whether he did this.

Because you KNOW other coaches will point to this and say, "Look at these guys, they can't afford to feed their players! Why would you go there?" There is no way to spin this in a positive manner. I don't know if Whitford had anything to do with it, but damn, the optics are just incredibly bad.
