If Rhode Island offers him an assistants job he had better take it. If Whitford sits out a year he is going to have a hard time getting back into coaching. He'll be fine, MAC coaches go up when very good, but often end up career assistants. Make as much money in many cases as a mid major... How true is that?!! Taylor, Buckley, John Cooper, Ray are among the MAC HCs that join that list. There are others who will always be an HC or nothing, never going back to being an asst. Groce could have easily slid from Illinois to Archie's staff at IU but chose to remain a HC. I wonder how that works with his buy out? If he did not take an HC position would Illinois still have to pay him? Ford went from Kent to Bradley then came back to Stony Brook as an asst. then Head and Heath came back after Ark and USF as an asst to Christian at Boston Coll. Not sure that Christian will ever be an asst. again.. The money for an asst is good but when you already have a couple million like Groce or 10M like Christian there has to be a another reason to keep coaching. For those without ego problems being an asst is no problem. Hunsaker did everything from Ops to Asst Head Coach at Utah and those at the top of the post seem to do well one seat away. Staff money at the Power schools is pretty good for the assts. with a fraction of the pressure of the Head Coach and the added bonus of spending time with the players making them better and recruiting them/establishing and fostering long term familial relationships

Mick Cronin, "The Ball State job is open. You couldn't possibly draw up a better candidate to be the next head coach at Ball State than Michael Lewis in my opinion."

Lewis has a nice resume, but fair or unfair, I'm not at all interested at hiring a Pac 12 assistant who has never been a HC when we BSU just fired someone who was a career assistant that was a Pac 12 assistant. Let's try something different.

Hopefully. If that happens, I'm thinking we can stay within 20 of them the next time we play.

I think that says a lot. His coach says he needs a shot. However, no one is willing to give him that shot.

Butler is all about taking chances on their coaching hires, but just find it odd he didn’t go with Holtmann who he worked under for 3 years instead went to Nebraska and Nebraska wasn’t very good, and typically after a final four run assistants get opportunities. Either way, I agree with some on the board about wanting an unconventional hire or one with HC experience, but I’m sure it will be Power 5 asst.

Not sure that a Whitford hire would be greeted with much enthusiasm among the Xavier community
" Hey, you remember that one team that came in here in December and looked like an intramural team that had never practiced together?"

Didn't he coach there and recruit Lavendar and a few other guys? Whit as a good assistant? Ya, it fits. Pretty sure his ex wife coached there too. Doubt there'd be a lack of enthusiasm.
