We need some scoring from the bench. Hate to say it we needed Thomas. Sellers and Jacobs came up short tonight, too much depended on Bumb who can be taken out of the game by athletic defenders. Cochran competed but not a 3pfg threat. Acree, Pearson filled in but neither a scorer. All accurate. Too often we get nothing from the bench. In games like tonight that’s the difference between winning and losing.

Only reason we are competitive this year is Sparks is way ahead of where anyone projected him to be. If not for him we would not be competitive. Other than that we are the same a team that shoots a ton of threes and really does not do it well. One reason for that tonight was again their guards are so much quicker than ours. We could not shake them so our threes were bad shots Agreed, Sparks is a joy to watch this season. He plays with a slight mean streak and a chip on his shoulder which is something we have been missing from our big men.

We got to the line twice as much as they did. We won’t get that on the road. We still lost. At home. I’m not gonna play the “if we’d done this or that game.” We didn’t get it done, period. Cochran scored well but damn, he took twice as many shots than anyone else. That’s not getting enough guys involved. We had FIVE stinking assists. Whit is not developing a team, it’s just a bunch of individuals. Sparks is a beast though. Brown isn’t ready for prime time. Thank you! I wasn’t able to watch tonight but how do you only get 5 assists in a game?!? That is coaching. Period. The ball has to move. Also, I am one of the biggest brown supporters on here probably. I really just hope it works out, but at this point I don’t think he has any business playing more minutes that sellers. But like someone said, he may be showing out in practice and it hasn’t translated to a game yet. Just a very odd situation…

We turn it over way too much. We have several players who give us nothing positive. Luke Brown is just an ordinary guy at this point, we aren’t going to be able to count on him contributing in a big way.
Cochran seems to be all about Cochran. From the “fashion” to the lack of making plays for others.
Our coach is overmatched against every opponent.
We will be about .500 in conference and get bounced in the first or second round of the Mac tourney, like always.
Sparks will be playing at another school next year. Why would he stay to play for Whitford, who has NEVER gotten a player to the NBA?

He’s never had to play the game at this speed against athletes with this size before. Hopefully he will find a niche, but with our coach, if you can’t create your own shot you are pretty much screwed.

Windham gave us another outside threat until whatever he did to get banished to the bench (by now I think we have to assume that's what happened). Jacobs had couple of good games from the 3-point distance, but has been unable to hit lately. Really need Brown to step-up and give the opposing defense someone other than Bumbalough to worry about from distance. I have been impressed with Bumbalough's improvement on driving to the hoop this year. It's been at least good enough to make his defenders think twice about him only being able to shoot 3's.

Herman! We beat the freakin spread by 2 points! What more do you want dude? Jeez, some people are never satisfied and just like to complain. Yeah, this conference is so lame top to bottom I don't think moral victories are a thing. You either win or you don't.

I am going to predict as I did against Bowling Green that BSU will beat Buffalo Friday night. I really believe we will be tough to beat in Worthen Arena this year but will struggle on the road with an inexperienced team. Nothing replaces experience and we simply don’t have a lot which makes road victories hard to come by. Just curious. Might we be starting to get an understanding of the thinking of high major coaches on who they do and don't offer scholarships to? Or maybe not quite yet.

Sparks may well be(come) the best center we have ever had. His showing in the past two games against two of the upper division MAC teams shows that this kid is for real. Cochran is also proving to be a beast from the field and at the line, also rebounds well. We have yet to find a bench player that can step up when Thomas and or Sparks is off the court. Brown is just not ready, showing lack of time with the team to be productive. I like this group of players and feel the potential is their to be a good team. Coaching still not a strength, but talent is there for a good season.

All in all, a pretty darn successful week.
We were ranked 253 on Monday and only fell to 256 by Saturday.
Holding our own!

Moving forward I like Brown, Bumb and Jones at the guard positions, Cochran and Sellers at the slashing small forward position, Thomas and Jlaad at the power forward and Sparks and Huggins in the post. I’m not sure where Windham fits in because he hasn’t played enough, but he can shoot the perimeter. I cringe every time Pearson rifles up a missed 3. This team is only going to get better as they gain experience and this freshman class will be one of the best in BSU history when it’s all said and done. By the way, Sparks is not going anywhere. He loves playing for Ball State and loves the University.

I think the one hit wonder band Steam may have a better take on Sparks.
