We turn it over way too much. We have several players who give us nothing positive. Luke Brown is just an ordinary guy at this point, we aren’t going to be able to count on him contributing in a big way. Cochran seems to be all about Cochran. From the “fashion” to the lack of making plays for others. Our coach is overmatched against every opponent. We will be about .500 in conference and get bounced in the first or second round of the Mac tourney, like always. Sparks will be playing at another school next year. Why would he stay to play for Whitford, who has NEVER gotten a player to the NBA? This is dead on. Coachran was -18 in the box score. I know that stat can sometimes be misleading, but the NBA lives by it. Watching our games, when we are on offense Cochran is frantically just dribbling probably 75+% of the time when he's in the game. The MAC blows. There's no way to sugar coat it. UB looked awful last night, in part because Mballa is still hurt and struggling. I don't see Brown doing much. The "offense" doesn't fit him and he lacks athleticism.

I like this group of players and feel the potential is their to be a good team. Coaching still not a strength, but talent is there for a good season. Oh yeah, we gave a Top 20 team all they could handle.

This team is only going to get better as they gain experience ........... Wow, that would be a completely unique result among college basketball rosters.

Cochran and Sparks kept us in the game. Missing Thomas hurt us offensively but probably helped us on defense because he has very little desire to work on that end of the floor.
Credit where due, we competed our ass off for 40 minutes and Sparks was the best post player on the floor. If he keeps this pace up it will be him or Farrakhan as FOY. I think it’s him right now. He may be Whitfords best recruit ever which I still believe will make him a target for PU or another big time program. I hope not because he’s a stud and by all accounts a great kid. I just think the lure of playing for a program that you know will be in the Dance is hard to pass up. It’s not just his numbers and ability that will attract attention but he’s a hard worker, smart and great attitude. I guess enjoy him while we can.
2-3 sucks but we look better than I imagined we would after 5 games. However, we still have too many missing pieces and guys who can’t execute their role on a consistent basis to really be taken seriously as a title contender. I suppose that could change over the next 6 weeks but I don’t trust Whitford and his record is clear. We just don’t tend to peak late in the season and relying so much on freshmen and untested players usually shows up in March.
Last thought…Cochran is starting to win me over a little. He still plays a little wild on the break but he’s a freaking gamer and if he were 6-8 he’d be a star. He’s a tough assignment to guard and has a nose for the basketball. Like Persons, he can be frustrating a lot of times but he busts his ass pretty hard and his tenacity may just be contagious. We shall see. By the way, I reserve the right to retract all of this and trash us if we play like 🐶 shit next game. 😜

But.
Since we have MORE new pieces and Freshmen playing significant winners, we should have a little more upside than most teams.

What I have learned from Whitford teams is that you shouldn’t expect improvement as the season goes on. Usually we fall off a cliff late in the season.

We have seen some teams improve, some hold steady, some go downhill. The fall off on some occasions has been late season injury or loss of key players.

I agree he probably will be MAC FOY.

It’s not a generalization at all. The record is what it is. Stop trying to downplay or spin our lack of late season success. It’s not credible.

Using only MAC games to compare apples to apples and comparing first half of schedule to last half .....let's go ahead and throw out the first two dismal years because of Taylor First half: 29-25 Last half: 27-26 ......nope....no bueno

In the starting lineup, BSU has only one full time starter from last season. We have 5 freshman getting playing time with obviously no previous college experience. We are playing every one in the MAC teams tough at the beginning of the conference season with a potpourri of new players. Personally, I have seen excellent improvement in our team defense from the beginning of the season. Our biggest issue in my eyes, is perimeter shooting. If Bumb is defended tight, he had trouble getting open looks and misses shots. Brown has not got untracked yet but when he does, it will be a huge help to Bumb and Jacobs. Cochran is finishing very well taking the ball to the rim and Sparks is improving every game. If Thomas plays against Buffalo and has a good game offensively, we beat an experienced and good Buffalo team. I personally am optimistic what the second half of the season brings. Yes, I predicted a Buffalo win, but did not know Thomas was injured and would not play.

Cochran at minus 18 sounds exactly right. Lots of points and “hustle”, but not winning ball.

Say what you like but as has been said by a couple, Sparks is a gamer; got to hope he loves BSU, falls in love with a Co-Ed, etc. I mentioned several times pre season this kid was going to be a stud and I’d say he is the best Center BSU has recruited in years!
Also, I like Cochran, he to is a gamer, plays hard, does the dirty stuff; he’s the second leading rebounder on the team. Is he perfect? Maybe not! But, he’s a keeper! I’d take him in my fox hole anytime.
Now for the rest of the team, school is still out way out. I do not see a single other player on our team that gives it all up like these two. Period. End of story.
Let’s see if any other players can truly step up!!

Step Up? ? "The team has fallen and they can't get up'' When will you (the collective you) admit this basketball program is a train wreck and call it a day? Terrible league...mediocre team for the rest of Whit's tenure. He has had his chance now it is about time he went home and played with himself.
