I thought Brown did fine bringing the ball up against some pretty good pressure. Had two wide open shots that in the future will go in and made a good pass that was not handled well by I think Pearson. Pearson and Brown are on the same level as far as experience goes and both will contribute more later either this year or next.

Moving forward I like Brown, Bumb and Jones at the guard positions, Cochran and Sellers at the slashing small forward position, Thomas and Jlaad at the power forward and Sparks and Huggins in the post. I’m not sure where Windham fits in because he hasn’t played enough, but he can shoot the perimeter. I cringe every time Pearson rifles up a missed 3. This team is only going to get better as they gain experience and this freshman class will be one of the best in BSU history when it’s all said and done. By the way, Sparks is not going anywhere. He loves playing for Ball State and loves the University. Your comments are 100% on the point!

Agree with you that Whit hasn’t gotten it done but I think this team has some talent outside of Sparks and Cochran. Let’s see if anyone else is gonna get up and really compete like Sparks and Cochran.
They are the only two that I’ve seen truly give up there bodies several times to make a play!! You may be right on Whit but I’ll never give up on a Ball State team.

In the starting lineup, BSU has only one full time starter from last season. We have 5 freshman getting playing time with obviously no previous college experience. We are playing every one in the MAC teams tough at the beginning of the conference season with a potpourri of new players. Personally, I have seen excellent improvement in our team defense from the beginning of the season. Our biggest issue in my eyes, is perimeter shooting. If Bumb is defended tight, he had trouble getting open looks and misses shots. Brown has not got untracked yet but when he does, it will be a huge help to Bumb and Jacobs. Cochran is finishing very well taking the ball to the rim and Sparks is improving every game. If Thomas plays against Buffalo and has a good game offensively, we beat an experienced and good Buffalo team. I personally am optimistic what the second half of the season brings. Yes, I predicted a Buffalo win, but did not know Thomas was injured and would not play. Our guards are not play makers......5 assists is proof enough.

It’ll be March and the narrative will still be, “we’re just so young and inexperienced.”

March the story is which middle team gets hot. Which good team fades. The draw.
If we think we can predict that we're way out on a limb

Step Up? ? "The team has fallen and they can't get up'' When will you (the collective you) admit this basketball program is a train wreck and call it a day? Terrible league...mediocre team for the rest of Whit's tenure. He has had his chance now it is about time he went home and played with himself. Can not argue about the coach. But this is a good collection of players that are giving it their all. They have good possibilities, coach aside.

In fact, I think the best option at this point is to fire Whitford now and let the team play it out on their own. That may be our best chance for success.

In the reality the rest of us inhabit, the strong teams typically fight it out for the championship and the Whitford-caliber teams have their seasons put to a merciful end, as we have witnessed firsthand for 20+ years in a row. I would say that's a pretty solid "limb" to go out on. Maybe you can name a sub-250 team that won the MAC championship...ever? Or alternately, you just keep piling up your Whitford apologist bullshit.

Yes, a bad bet to win.
To have any chance we would have to improve.
AND be hot. And probably get a draw where we get a break.
I'm optimistic we improve. Doubt it's possible we'll be among those strongest teams, expected to win, even if we exceed all expectations.

I assume your must be drunk or someone has given you sodium pentathol. Why don’t you just succinctly state what all of us know. Whenever we win it’s a minor miracle and the chances of us having postseason success are completely unrealistic because our head coach is a head case.

I'm always a reasonable guy with ideas about how we can win, and why we might lose and generally kind of happy drunk.
So I don't share your despair.
This is a rebuild year and I never expected much, had hopes we'd improve and be competitive by MAC tourney time, still do, and so far this is more or less what I expected.

We have been in a "rebuild" for the past 9 seasons. It is time to get a new coach.

There’s always been an “explanation” for Whitford’s teams coming up short. Every year there’s an excuse. We are already know this years if this team ends up doing nothing. Hell, Whitford even has the starpress beat reporter repeating the “team is so young” mantra in every story. But now even he’s asking the question “when is a young team no longer young.” Let’s not forget Cochran was Niu’s best player, Pearson played in 19 games at TCU (whit keeps calling him a freshman anyway) and Jacobs played in 68 games at St Louis (started 29) Bumbalough is a vet now. Thomas is a vet. Acree is a vet. Sparks is not playing like a freshman in conference play. This team isn’t quite as young and inexperienced as Whitford would lead you to believe.
