What amazes me is that we are the 3rd best in MAC attendance.

What amazes me is that we are the 3rd best in MAC attendance. just watch a random MAC there is no one at any of them. Our 2000 season tickets holders will allow us to finish top 5 in the mac in attendance. Once we all die which is sooner than later there will not be 500 people at worthern

I have missed three games mostly out of disinterest and maybe Covid fears. After watching this sorry excuse for a basketball program tonight I am not in a hurry to come back.

After tonight, BSU has hoisted 414 3's and hitting 146 for 0.353%. We are last in the MAC in giving up the 3 with a 0.363%. BTW, we are the third worst defense in the MAC giving up 77.4 pts. a game.

I really feel bad for Sparks, and for us as fans.
For the first time since Whitford became coach, I feel like we have a player who we could build a couple of MAC championship teams around. Yeah we've had other good players like Persons or Teague, but they all wandered out of their realm, tried to take on too much or be players they really were not. Sparks just works. He does his job and he seems to know innately what his job should be because sure as hell he hasn't been coached to play the way he does. Sellers and Jihad, both freshmen, are decent additional parts and there are a couple of others (maybe Bum, maybe Brown, maybe Pearson or Cochran) who if coached properly could make a nice core.
But it'll just never happen with Whitford. It's a shame because I think our best hope of keeping our best players is to convince them they've got a real chance to win a championship.
As for who might coach the team if Whitford is shown the door, well you've got a guy next to him on the bench who has 18 years of head coaching experience and a record over. 500, even if you only count his Division I record. Hell I'd even give Botts a shot. You want to keep a decent coach around for a while, try hiring a guy who's already close to home.
I'm not saying either of those guys is the final solution, but fire Whitford now and give one of them the reins for the rest of the season. Time to take one for a test drive.

Main thing I noticed tonight is that we got our shots blocked a lot. And not like deflection blocked, like shoved back in our faces blocked. It was hard to watch.

Can we get *another* banner for beating the spread?
These will be the only banners Whit-less will ever hang.

Agreed about an immediate change, but not so sure about within. How can ANY assistant sit through this shit and not be more assertive to correct anything? Would love to have been a fly on the wall to compare the halftime coaching between Toledo and our staff. We were out rebounding Toledo and only down 3 and yet we shit the bed on the first three possessions and gave up.

We are now 1-6 on the road. Looking at the schedule ahead, we have road games in February at Ohio, at BG, at Buffalo and at Kent. That feels like an 0-4 stretch where we will likely be a heavy dog in all of those games. The other 3 roadies left are at Central this Saturday, at Northern next Thursday and at Western in the finale on March 4h. I’m guessing we go at least 1-2 in these maybe 2-1 if we can hit some damn shots. But the bad news is the more we struggle the worse our mindset is going to be so this could snowball pretty easily. Our home games are basically all the West teams including Toledo plus Miami and Akron. That feels like 5-2 or maybe 4-3 at worst. So 2-5 road 5-2 home equals 9-11 in league and 14-17 overall. Could be 13-18 or 15-16. Lucky for Jim that the West is like a gift that keeps giving. And, we will be left with just enough to keep the blind happy, keep the admin complacent and the change crowd angry. SSDD.

There is no doubt that the MAC West is the gift that keeps giving for Whit for his entire tenure.

Darner at least has a lot of experience and has learned from other, better HCs, but this team is so flawed on both ends of the court ...
