Reality is on point as usual; I’ll add that our starting guards combined for 1-10 with Jacobs making one off an inside cut late!
Bum has struggled the last two games and hopefully takes an extra 20 minutes putting up extra shots to regain his confidence!
Luckily Brown and Cochran hit a few 3’s to offset! By the way, Cochran’s shot looked pretty good

Pearson needs to play less and Sellers needs to play more. I hate that they frequently sub in together. I, too, want to see more of Sellers.

Let’s keep throwing our best pure shooter out there.
Bumbalough is now at 34% FG 32% three point FG and a whopping 59% from the line in MAC
We would not even send this best “shooter” to the line to shoot a bench technical.

How are we ever going to be consistent especially on the road when your most experienced guard and floor leader Bumbalough plays like he is tonight? 0-6, no points, only 2 assists. You just can't have that kind of performance from an upperclassman against an opponent with a 5-11 record. What a head case. It's why a "pure shooter" as he is billed is such a lousy free throw shooter. Wait, we're young remember?

He has been a "head case" all season IMO.

I have a split decision on this and I can't likely have both. Sellers absolutely needs to play more. However, I like Pearson and think he brings "something" to the game, but then he'd a bit like Cochran and is frequently becomes undisciplined and out of control. He brings some grit and energy when he's in. I think he's a decent rebounder and defender BUT, he's not a shooter and no one seems to tone him down from taking threes when he's in the game. I'm just not as down on him as some of you, but I do think he needs to be throttled a bit.

He has been a "head case" all season IMO. Honestly I don't see the head case thing, I see a streaky shooter and a player that when he is good he is pretty good, and given our lack of shooting probably should keep shooting rather than expect others to do so. It's something we need off the bench and got some of it from Brown and an uncharacteristic shooting game outside from Cochran and survived a bad game from Bumb. We need him more consistent, or get that bench shooting that we can count on. That's where we would agree.

Sellers definitely needs more PT. I think he is a strong flight risk if his PT/ role doesn't increase. Pearson, meh. He does nothing for me. As for Bumbalough, the kid works had and outkicks his coverage as far as I'm concerned. He just lacks the size, speed, and quickness to consistently make an impact at this level.

I think his FG% has always been inconsistent.

I'll never argue with a win even against a horrid team like NIU. Thankfully our bench finally stepped up tonight and gave us 29 points. Our bench scoring the previous 4 games had been 10, 8, 12, and 13. Brown and Sellers especially have the potential to help offensively. Bumb & Jacobs combined for 4 points tonight with 6 assists and 1 TO. That's not good enough. How about Cochran against his old team? 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and ZERO turnovers. Went 3-4 from beyond the arc. Baller. And even though Sparks got a little rattled tonight (who wouldn't playing on that floor, after that road trip, in a town that looks like a Gulag) but he still had 11 points and 8 boards. Kid is tough and he freaking works. See ya'll on Saturday. Plan on going to the game!

He wasn't a pure shooter in high school, and he certainly hasn't been in college. He's streaky. I do like him, though - he works hard.

Bumbalough was never a great shooter but he was always able to get hot and hit several in a row. That's why I always get pissed when he hits a couple and Whit subs him out

Bumb was more a scorer than a shooter in high school. He would get hot, for sure but he also drove the paint a lot and get to the FT line. That he’s been so poor at the FT LINE is a mystery.

We've had some good small guards at BSU, but I am always uncomfortable with the idea, unless they are very athletic.
Bumb has been a tough cookie and competed, maybe that FB thing! Actually he has played better defense than I had expected for that reason, but he is fundamentally some kind of combo guard or SG, not a PG. We can work with that, but unless he is hitting it's an issue. We need the 3pfg shooting on the floor.
FT shooting is a very big mystery.
