My apologies if this question has been discussed previously:
Does Ball State or their supporters currently provide any name and likeness contracts to our athletes?
If not, how do we compete with larger schools that can provide a small stipend for pizzas, incidentals and taking your girlfriend on a date in the form of a name and likeness contract? Even a modest amount would be hard to compete with if your school offers nothing other than the scholarship.
I don't care how much you love Ball State as a student, $25K + a scholarship sounds better than just the scholarship.

I think they already got a small stipend. I remember when they started doing it. I think within the last 10 years. BSU made a big deal of making players send out thank you letters to donors about it.
Don't know about NIL for BSU athletes but I heard some local HS players signed contracts after going to college. Volleyball players.

Jim's right they have been getting a stipend for a number of years now. I'm not sure if that has increased for some after nil or not

It's 2000 to 4000 a year and was passed in 2016. It's supposed to cover room and board expenses or you can spend it on weed

NIL is a lot more than just pizza. Big time schools who start out with advantage in attracting great players with potential national brands, and also have a bigger NIL plus for the simple reason their athletes sell to a bigger audience following the school.

Doners apparently give some thousands of dollars towards BSU sports, which appears to then get entirely wasted, at least where basketball is concerned. This money is being controlled by the same incompetents that have been picking, and extending, our coaches. At best the money gets put towards some facility that has possibly some indirect positive effect on recruiting. If these same dollars were given more or less directly to desirable basketball recruits (laundered appropriately through NIL), their impact would be magnified a hundred-fold. Not every mid-major in the country has as stupid of an administration and fanbase as BSU. I imagine there are schools out there where some savvy person or group is working this angle right now. Those are the schools we will soon be seeing on TV in March while we are listening to another round of lame excuses.

What pisses me off is how the NCAA totally cocked this up.
Now taxpayers are subsidizing the tuition of kids making bank (some of them, a lot of bank).
What the NCAA SHOULD have done is institute a rule that if you sign an NIL for any amount, you are ineligible for an athletic scholarship. You would still count towards the max number of schollies the team can carry, but you have to pay your own way.
